Currently, we have an opportunity for a Jr. Substation Project Engineer who will work as a member of a dynamic team within our Power Delivery Operation. The successful candidate will work in a fast paced environment to execute annual capital improvement projects and solve challenging substation engineering problems for mainly utility clients. This position requires a combination of strong technical, leadership and interpersonal skills, a high attention to detail and a passion for producing high quality deliverable packages. This position will provide engineering support to Project Managers and will report directly to the Engineering Supervisor. Assignments may vary in complexity and cover the full range of project planning through design and construction support as required: project design work may range from Protection and Control schemes at 12.5kV through 500kV to Physical Substation Outdoor arrangements and other power utility projects.

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

This Jr level engineering position will apply a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices as required for substation engineering design including overall functions and responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following:
• Support engineering design functions on substation projects
• Oversight of engineering design and CAD work performed on assigned projects
• Interface directly with clients and other staff in remote office locations
• Periodic domestic travel may be required
• Prepare other specifications as related to substation engineering projects
• Apply National and International Standards including NESC, IEEE/ANSI, IEC
• Apply design guides such as RUS Bulletin 1724E-300 (Substation Design Guide) and Client standard designs and details
• Prepare engineering calculations and reports
• Assists team in the preparation of both construction and procurement documents
• Work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines as necessary to complete projects
• Perform detail engineering design as required by project needs

Typically requires Bachelors of Science Electrical Engineering degree and 2 - 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience with medium, high or extra high voltage electrical utility substation electrical engineering.

o Operational and Protection & Control Oneline Diagrams
o Protection and Control AC and DC Schematics
o Substation Station Service Design
o Substation SCADA/Communications Design
o Substation Electrical Layout, Sections and Details
o Substation Grounding Layout and Details
o Substation Raceway Layout and Details
• Strong focus on design quality

• Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to meet deadlines under high pressure situations
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• High level of computer competency and proficiency with software typically used during the execution of substation projects

Additional Qualifications:

• Familiarity with state and federal safety, regulatory compliance requirements and construction codes is a plus
• Knowledge of Microsoft ProjectWise document management software is a plus
• Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting software is a plus
