Role synopsis
Purpose of Role:
Investor Relations is a small group of professional specialists within the CFO function based in London and Houston. It's primary purpose is to ensure a fair valuation for BP's shares. This is achieved through development and implementation of a long term IR strategy aimed at attracting an informed and globally diversified shareholder base.
This role will report directly to the Head of Group Investor Relations and will focus on all aspects of Investor Relations, working fluidly to support, and at times lead, aspects of IR activity according to the varied demands on the team.

Key accountabilities
  • Together with IR peers manage market expectations of the Group's financial performance through pro-active communication with market analysts regarding their forecasts of company earnings. This is important for reducing volatility in the Group's share price.
  • Actively drive effective delivery of the annual Strategy presentation and quarterly results presentations by working with business segments and key functions to facilitate the development of Group presentations to the financial community and the executive briefing materials used to support the process. Act as a key interface between IR, the business segments and the Group functions.
  • Act as key London based contact point for equity analysts and shareholders to effectively advise on company strategy, quarterly results and newsflow.
  • Support and, when experienced, lead meetings and roadshows with the investment community both alone and in conjunction with management and/or other communicators in the IR team.
  • Support and/or lead the project delivery of key IR events including Investor Days, ad-hoc webcasts, site visits etc. according to the resource needs of the team
  • Provide support and connectivity to the wider Group communications, Strategy and Policy teams regarding the Corporate Reporting process and their relationships with Socially Responsible Investors.
  • As a senior leader in the team provide support to the Head of IR on a range of IR processes according to the demands on the team, including supporting the coaching and development of other team members

Key challenges
  • Building deep expert level knowledge of equity market practises, strategic drivers for investment in the oil sector and BP's activities across all segments and functions
  • Ability to communicate at times sensitive and ambiguous messages effectively under challenging and pressured circumstances.
  • Strong business and financial acumen including the ability to understand, analyse and provide constructive feedback to equity analysts on their financial modelling of the company.
  • Ability to engage, influence and seek feedback across multiple points of contact both internally and externally around highly complex and challenging issues.
  • Ability to develop strong external relationships
  • Ability to act with confidence, engage and provide open feedback to Executive team members

Essential Education
Post graduate qualification e.g. Finance, MBA or oil industry specific

Ability to command confidence of senior management

The Investor Relations team is split between London and Houston.
