Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

This is an IBEW represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining. We are seeking

a highly motivated, capable individual with excellent safety and customer focus skills, as well as mechanical skills, for our Gas Service Representative (GSR) position.

The work environment may include working in confined spaces. Shift work, weekends and
overtime may be required. This position is subject to union dues.

*Please note that the successful candidate must complete all 5 modules during the 9 month
training period in order to continue employment at PG&E.

This position is a DOT covered classification and is subject to random drug screening.


Minimum Qualifications:

• Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to present a valid CA Driver License (C or A as required by the job) on Day 1 of the job.
• Ability to work in all types of weather extremes.
• Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
• Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Internal PG&E Employees: Must have qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) exam and Industrial Skills Test (IST) and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) prior to applying.
• External and Hiring Hall Candidates: Must qualify on the Physical Test Battery (PTB) exam, Industrial Skills Test (IST) and Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) prior to interviewing.
• Must successfully complete the Post Offer Physical Assessment (POPA).
• Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds a one time a day.
• Must reside within 30 minutes of job location.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in construction, plumbing, or basic mechanical skills.
• Graduate from the Bridge to Utility Worker Power Pathway Program.
• Prior customer service experience.
• Experience working with gas meters and gas equipment.
• Experience working with electric meters and electrical equipment.
• Current or previous PG&E employee.
• Current or previous Hiring Hall employee.


• Respond to gas emergencies.
• Provide safety checks and adjustment services on customer- owned gas appliances.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and policies. • Maintain a high standard of public relations and personal appearance.
• Successfully complete all job-related training requirements.
• Identify broken seals, diversion, meter tampering, vandalism, lost meters and other instances of energy theft. • Identify and report any abnormal operating conditions.
• Collect and verify gas meter module information.
• Turn module radios on and off.
• Turn offs and Shut-Off Non Pay (SONP) residential gas only
• Assists others in the Gas Service Department in performing gas metering work, performs necessary paperwork and shop duties. If necessary, may performed meter reads on any gas or electric meter.
• Perform atmospheric corrosion inspections as part of their job duties.
