The Senior Development Engineer Combustion Aero-thermal will be responsible for providing guidance for, and will take an active role in, the development of gas turbine combustion systems. He will drive technology advances to enable high operability, low emission gas only and dual fuel systems for existing and new products. The role will include mentoring engineering teams working across a range of products.

Essential Responsibilities

The individual will have involvement in the full life cycle of the product, including new product introduction, engine validation testing, product cost-out (PCO), and field issue resolutions for the existing fleet. He will contribute to the development of combustor aero-thermal simulation tools, such that they represent well the combustor systems of interest, for the purposes of model-based management and as a basis for combustor system evaluation and improvement. He will leverage his expertise in dual fuel development to ensure that we deliver the best-in-world gas-only and dual fuel combustion systems.

Specific responsibilities are:
• Contribute to the specification of gas-only and dual fuel combustor development programs
• Setup aero-thermal models for existing combustor systems, and ensure model accuracy through comparison with data from engine operation, combustion system rig testing and part/component testing
• Setup the aerothermal layout of new combustion systems and upgrades
• Specify test plan and instrumentation requirements for laboratory, rig and engine tests to verify and develop the aero-thermal models for combustor systems of interest
• Take part in laboratory, rig and engine tests, to verify combustion system designs and to update and validate aero-thermal models
• Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues in combustion system design
• Contribute to the implementation of innovative designs that give GE positive differentiation to competitor offerings
• Utilize Fast Works tools to improve current business products and processes
• Implement design process improvements for cycle-time reduction and design quality
• Concurrently work on multiple projects, monitoring progress and quality and ensuring schedule requirements are met
• Effectively communicate and provide recommendations to internal customers through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data
• Coordinate design and analysis activities towards achieving technical goals
• Support new product introduction and design execution for all design phases: conceptual, preliminary and detailed design and verification
• Support installed fleet by addressing product cost out and root cause analysis, when needed
• Document and report results to component owners and leadership


• Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Substantial experience in turbomachinery technology, covering several disciplines including cooling, combustion and aerodynamic design
• In-depth knowledge of the physical and chemical processes underlying combustion heat transfer and aerodynamics
• First-hand experience of the development of combustion systems from the initial layout, through the development and design cycle, through to the implementation of systems into product offerings
• Strong programming skills, preferably in the Phython language
• Strong team working capabilities and project planning skills
