Role synopsis
The LNG Book within International Gas is responsible for developing and optimising BP's advantaged portfolio of traded LNG assets. The LNG market has been developing rapidly and now provides a mechanism for gas-on-gas competition between regional markets. BP has been leading this change through its strong LNG portfolio, which extends from the Atlantic Basin to Asia, and comprises both equity and third party LNG. BP has a strong shipping fleet and access to attractive markets in the US, Europe and Asia. The International Gas Asia LNG origination team is based in Singapore. It is responsible for establishing and implementing the strategy for origination and marketing, of BP equity and merchant LNG contracts, in the Asia Pacific and Middle East region.
The LNG Originator, will report to the Head of LNG Origination in Singapore, and will be expected to network effectively with the LNG traders, operators, analysts and other senior originators based in Singapore and elsewhere in Asia. The post holder will be expected to negotiate and execute Confirmation Notices and Master Trading Agreements in support of our spot trading activity in the first two years of this role. The individual will also support the rest of the team's efforts in delivering mid term and long term origination opportunities in China, Southeast Asia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka ("Asian market") with a focus on internal functional co-ordination.

Key accountabilities
  • Support trading activities by executing Master Trading Agreements and Confirmation Notices
  • Support traders in terms of reviewing term-sheets and submissions to tenders
  • Ongoing management, interpretation, implementation, enhancement and defence of existing term contracts
  • Identify risks and opportunities in existing contracts/new transactions, perform risk matrix analysis
  • Work with BP Legal, Tax, Credit and other BP functions to maximise and protect BP value, and facilitate necessary internal approvals in both E&P and IST.
  • Ensure an understanding and adherence to BP Policies, IST compliance policies and standards relevant to the role, and to the Code of Conduct.

Additional Opportunities
  • Screen new Asian markets for potential opportunities for short- and long-term structured sales with the aim of enhancing the BP portfolio and optimizing new and existing BP equity supply.
  • Make Term Sheet proposals; progress buyers to detailed HOA negotiations; support in negotiating and executing off-take Heads of Agreements.

Essential Education
Educated to degree level

Essential experience and job requirements

• have experience in the upstream and downstream LNG business, have a strong understanding of the different components of the LNG value chain, and be able to network and co-operate effectively with colleagues in other segments
• have a good knowledge of the LNG industry and its participants, particularly in Asia
• have a good knowledge of traded markets, notably gas markets, and an understanding of risk management
• have knowledge of LNG contracts, including structuring, financial and legal issues.
• be able to work with the LNG trading team as well as other functions
• be a confident decision maker and be able to represent BP with intermittent supervision.
• be able to work respectfully but effectively in Asian cultures.

Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location)
Have experience of working with multicultural teams, working for intermittent but intensive periods outside normal office conditions.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who have at least three years experience in an LNG trading business and five years experience in IST
• Preference will be given to candidates with a good working knowledge and/or experience of the core markets
• Relevant Asian language skills and experience of working with counterparties in Asia would also be an advantage
