We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer with good leadership skills with a strong technical background. Technology & Service Solutions /Rotor, Towers & Control/Tower Engineering/Tower internals
Tower Engineering in Technology & Service Solutions is maintaining and developing the complete Vestas tower program. The tasks range from structural engineering over highly specialized FEM calculations, requirements specifications, DFMEA, test planning and execution to risk assessments and compilation of certification documentation.

Tower Internals is a sub-department of Tower Engineering. The department is responsible for design of all internals: access ladder, platforms, internal ladders, lift, HSE and compliance to the standards applicable to the markets where the towers are sold and also for the complete BOM of Towers including the Tower structure.

Focus is on securing sound, cost-optimized and production friendly solutions and at the same time fulfilling the overall requirements to safety and functionality for the products. Additionally, process efficiency and lead time reduction is of key importance in order to fulfill Vestas' overall ambitions of delivering products, which are configured to customer needs in a timely manner.

The team is located at 3 different sites: Aarhus and Lem in Denmark and in Chennai, India. The team consists of 15 highly skilled design engineers with background in mechanical engineering.

As a Specialist - Tower Internals you will report to the manager of Tower Internals and your primary responsibility will be to deliver the technology road map(strategy) for Tower internals and to ensure the technical solutions delivered by the Internals designers are meeting all the requirements
In greater detail your area of responsibilities will be:
  • Develop and follow Technology roadmap (strategy) for Tower internals area
  • Identify and run technology projects in the area of tower internals
  • Fulfill role as technical leader for the component level functional Leads of tower internals
  • Maintain a competitor benchmark overview to ensure Vestas always is ahead of its competition
  • Have a knowledge network of Suppliers, Customers, Product Management, SBUs and PBUs as well as Universities, Testcenters, etc.
  • Ensure the technical solutions provided don't conflict other IPR's and not to miss out an new IPR opportunity
  • Ensure compliance with relevant HSE standards
  • Contribute to cost reduction and improve quality through standardization, modularization and process efficiency improvements.

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of full design life cycle - from requirements scoping to end of life of a product
  • Experience from larger R&D organization
  • Min. 10 years of industry experience
  • Project Management skills would be an advantage

We see the ideal candidate possessing the following competencies:
  • Proven technical experience and ability to drive technology development
  • Knowledge of mechanical design and HSE standards
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and preferably insight into wind turbines
  • Experience with design of load carrying structures using both analytical and FE analysis.
  • Experience with calculations, structural engineering, design of load carrying structures using both analytical and FE analysis (FE is optional)
  • Experience with six sigma tools, ECM and PDM-link will be an advantage
  • Experience with integrated product development and modularization
