About the Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will play a vital role in providing effective legal advice and support across a wide range of legal issues, including negotiation of contracts, joint ventures, acquisitions/disposals, settlement of disputes, compliance and Company Secretarial duties.

Responsibilities are to ensure that commercial contracts are profitable in the long term and will not result in costly disputes; that the Company complies with legislation and legal formalities; preventing the Company from incurring liability and protecting its reputation. This role's main activities follow from ownership of various legal processes, procedures and tasks:
  • Advise internal clients in areas such as Health and Safety Law, Engineering Construction Law, Commercial Law, International Trading Law, Distribution Law, Intellectual Property Law, Environmental Law and Competition Law.
  • Audit to check compliance with statutory obligations, including joint ventures companies and to make recommendations to ensure that the necessary actions are taken.
  • Evaluate and advise on environmental liabilities on land owned or operated by the Company.
  • Advise the Directors and staff of their statutory obligations and potential liabilities, as well as providing specialised expertise in negotiations with claims from third parties.
  • Ensuring legal compliance including HS&E, competition law and company law.
  • Liaising with Regulators (OFT, ICO, HSE, EA, etc.) defending prosecutions and managing civil litigation.
  • Ensuring the Company Secretarial duties are provided for and filed in line with statutory requirements.
  • Authorised signatory to all contract and deeds entered into on behalf of the Company
  • Advise on capital investment projects eg. Engineering contracts.

Profile sought
About the Successful Candidate

We are looking for a qualified Solicitor in the UK with approximately 5 years of post qualification experience.
  • Commercial Legal acumen, ideally in the Energy or Chemical industry
  • Experience of dealing with environments where Health & Safety implications are significant (eg. trade of hazardous products)
  • Excellent negotiating & influencing skills, able to communication at all levels of an organization
  • Flexible, proactive, objective with the ability to drive change
