Position Summary

Designs components or portions of systems, and modifies existing designs to develop or improve them. Complete understanding and application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Provides solutions to a wide range of complex problems under general direction. Determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

  • Prove equipment arrangements with conceptual routing of critical systems. Must be able to prepare these layouts utilizing the particular CAD software required for the project, specifically 3D modeling
  • Develop mechanical layouts that will satisfy all technical requirements on a project from preliminary the preliminary design stage through the detail design stage
  • Understand operations and maintenance issues for equipment such as standard pressure vessels, exchangers and pumps as to be able to provide associated piping arrangements. Must review vendor equipment drawings and coordinate any issues with the Mechanical Engineer
  • Complete the detail design from conceptual designs
  • Assist lesser experience designers in accomplishing mechanical layouts on projects and by participating in department layout training
  • Coordinate the design effort with other area designers and other disciplines
  • Perform or supervise Mechanical Design checking activities.
  • Maintain project Controls records as required to track assigned design area and deliverables
  • Produce all deliverables required for Mechanical Design utilizing CAD systems as required
  • Minimum of 10 years' relevant experience required
  • Associates Degree or 2 years related course work or equivalent required
  • Ability to produce equipment arrangement and detail drawings in a 2D or 3D environment required
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Experience working in an engineering or equipment supply company that specializes in equipment design and integration into existing facilities preferred
  • Working knowledge of structural steel, high temperature furnace operations, refractory selection and installation, high temperature ductwork thermal analysis and support selection, support loads and thermal movement calculations preferred
  • Knowledge of PDS, AutoCAD, and Microstation preferred
  • 2 years 3D CAD experience preferred
