Role synopsis
The Quantitative Trader - Power role within the Power trading team is a key position as the bench looks to continue to build out its power business within BP's Integrated Supply and Trading group. The position will report to the Lead Power Trader and is accountable for the execution of complex transactions, holistic risk analysis, associated valuation and modelling, and interfacing with Quant, Structuring, Risk and Origination teams to identify and initiate optimization strategies.

Key accountabilities
  1. Generate Power portfolio optimization strategies for short, medium and long term positions across Power and Emissions in accordance with strategy agreed upon by the Lead Power Trading Manager.
  2. Own the relationship with key Structuring and Origination personnel around complex transactions and strategies (e.g Tolling Agreements, PPA,s and VPP,s)
  3. Provide support required for infrastructure build out of the power platform and drive the right conversations internally and externally that are consistent with BP,s Values and Behaviours.
  4. Assist mid and back office personnel in resolving any checkout discrepancies between BP and the counterparties on the trader's trades.
  5. Maintaining high ethical standards and complying with all market rules and regulations.
  6. Promote and support our "Speak Up" culture unconditionally.

Essential Education
Bachelor Degree (any discipline)

Essential experience and job requirements
  • A track record of executing complex transactions.
  • Practical experience of commodity pricing and structuring.
  • Technical degree discipline with advanced mathematics content, including but not limited to mathematics, physics or electrical engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in modelling risk from correlation products, including spark and dark spread options, gas versus oil spread options, and dual market swing contracts.
  • Sound one team behaviours with the ability to receive and provide respectful challenge.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of energy trading markets and trading instruments.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work within a very deadline orientated environment.
  • Ability to deploy a variety of styles to effectively communicate with and present to customers, stakeholders and peers.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
  • Practical experience in Commodity financing.
  • Proven record of working collaboratively with the risk and Technology teams to improve systems capabilities and reporting processes, to support a controlled, scalable customer focussed business.
  • Good organization and time management skills with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Open Link Endur.
