Job Description:

This is a wage determined position. Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in developing, writing, and editing material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to document operating procedures and details.
  • Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
  • Review manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Review published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
  • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Assist in laying out material for publication.
  • Arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material.
  • Write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases.
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel.
  • When required, write material regarding work methods and procedures.
  • When required, support test directors/engineers in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Mass Communications, Science or Engineering (5 years' experience preparing DoD research, development, test and evaluation [RDT&E] technical documentation may be substituted for degree)

Essential Functions Form:


Computer use requiring sitting for extended periods of time (80%). The ability to stoop, crawl, and climb into or under a vehicle is required (25%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (25%). The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required (25%).


Work is mostly performed in an inside office environment. Work environment could also be outside, depending on the task. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures, and other outdoor climatic conditions is required (25%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (25%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts. Work may require being assigned to shift work (20%).


Work requires regular use of typical office equipment such s the personal computer (80%), copiers (10%), and fax machines (5%).


Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours may be required with as little as one hour advance notice.


Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must further be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to obtain unescorted access to work areas. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. May be exposed to extreme temperatures and noise. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required.
