Role synopsis

The Business Analyst will be part of the Business Analysis Team in European Gas & Power, International Gas. The role will provide capability and knowledge to support the Business Analysis Team in all activities relating to both operational activity and solution enhancement.

You will be a self starter with a demonstrable track record in business analysis, partner management and conflict resolution who is willing to learn new skills in an expanding team.
He or she is used to dealing with a diverse business community, and has a proven track record as part of a project delivery team in a complex environment.

Key accountabilities
Requirements Engineering:

  • Elicit requirements at all stakeholder levels.
  • Lead requirements workshops.
  • Manage conflict resolution.
  • Refine requirements to eliminate ambiguity, conflict and duplication.
  • Model requirements using a structured approach.
  • Produce high quality analysis, including collecting precise and accurate user story acceptance criteria to be used by developers and test automation frameworks.
  • Understand system constraints and opportunities to inform design.
  • Work with design and architecture on design options and potential systems and process solutions.
  • Prepare business cases for prioritisation.
  • Use tools to manage requirements and traceability.
  • Manage cross-team consensus and acceptance of requirements, ensuring "meaningful" sign offs

  • Relationship and Stakeholder Management:

  • Build strong business intimacy with commercial partners
  • Work closely with our part-located off-shore and with a European user community
  • DevOps:
  • Provide excellent customer support of applications against agreed SLAs.
  • Provide diagnosis, workaround options and resolution for Business As Usual issues.
  • Identify underlying root causes for reoccurring problems, and actively suggest improvements and simplifications to improve the overall service offering.
  • Analyse and clearly document defects, minor improvements and change requests.
  • Use tools to handle incidents and defects from initial response to prioritisation and resolution.
  • Collaborate and share knowledge with other DevOps teams.

Project Delivery:
  • Support the full project lifecycle including delivery and Early Life Support.
  • Support other workstreams as directed by the team lead.
  • Co-ordinate dependencies with other IT&S delivery work streams.
  • Provide quality assurance on analysis through peer review.
  • Deliver clear user communications.
  • Handle user expectations.

  • Testing:
  • Collaborate well with offshore test team.
  • Write test scenarios for both automated and manual testing.
  • Perform regression and End to End testing.
  • Conduct User Acceptance Testing.

  • Business Process Change:
  • Lead business process workshops.
  • Analyse and map business processes.
  • Find opportunities for process improvements.

  • Data:
  • Analyse data flows.
  • Model data requirements.

  • Technical Understanding:
  • Use SQL to interrogate data.
  • Understand complex spreadsheets.

Essential experience and job requirements
  • Soft Skills:
    Be a good communicator able to deliver a message effectively and concisely at all levels including to senior management, and on both a technical and a business level. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with technology staff and commercial partners

    Be self-motivated and self-starting - able to pick up new or unfamiliar concepts quickly with little supervision. Be confident and demonstrate good judgement. Be able to work in a demanding development environment.

    Build team capability - identify standards, build knowledge transfer artefacts and perform knowledge transfer. Be an excellent teammate, with the ability to influence others to achieve success.

    Domain Knowledge
    A good understanding of Energy trading (including the full deal lifecycle and all physical movements of gas and power operations)

    Systems Knowledge
    Deep understanding of systems functionality core to the gas & power application set.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
Knowledge of Commodity Transaction Pipes
Practical experience of working in an iterative/Agile development environment (including sprint planning, daily scrums, reviews and retrospectives)
Experience in toolsets for managing requirements, for example, Microsoft TFS, SharePoint, etc.
Professional accreditation e.g. Foundation in Business Analysis or ISEB Diploma in Business Analysis
