This is an entry level to Junior level opportunity in Jacobs' growing Research and Specialty Ser vices group based in Durham, NC. The employee will have exposure to multiple projects supporting Jacobs' Research Laboratory Support (RLS) at the US EPA's Air Lab in Research Triangle Park, NC. This contract provides on-site support to EPA's National Risk Management Research Laboratory's Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division and the National Homeland Security Research Center Decontamination Consequence Management Division. The employee will be responsible for lab work, fieldwork, data processing and presentation.

Duties will include:

• Designing and conducting bench-scale and pilot-scale laboratory experiments, including development of test protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Troubleshooting, cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies


• Sample Tracking

• Chain of Custody

• Troubleshooting issues

• Method development

• Interpreting data and meeting strict quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) guidelines on documentation when recording data

• Reporting scientific results and present data analysis in tabular and graphical forms.

The ideal candidate must be able to work collaboratively in cross-functional multi-disciplinary research teams.
  • BA in Microbiology/Analytical Chemistry and/or Environmental Chemistry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of microbiology laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology and procedures, including mathematical calculations used in microbiology analyses
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard laboratory safety practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and procedures of laboratory record keeping
• Mastery of general microbiology including
o Chemical management
o Bacteriology
o Biology of spore-forming
o Work with Bacillus spores
o Disinfection/sterilization
o Aseptic technique
Proficiency in the MS Office platform
