Due the explosion of our workload in our industry leading York Office we are now looking for a Principal OLE Engineer to work on one of the largest rail projects in the UK.

JACOBS is one of the world's largest and most diverse providers of technical and management services. We offer a full-spectrum of consultancy support to commercial, government and industrial clients across many sectors.

Extensive experience in overhead line design preferably allocation layout design, bonding design and cross sections of OLE structures, plus a broad knowledge of rail industry practice. Familiarity with railway standards is essential.

We need someone who is excited by taking the lead on complex design projects and standing out in multi-disciplinary design teams.

Primary Responsibilities:
    To undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within the Jobholder's ability and competence. To work at any position within a project team to achieve the project objectives. To supervise and check the work of junior staff and to take part in the professional development of those staff. When required, to undertake the roles of Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE), Task Manager, Designer, Checker or Approver for all various types of Overhead Line design. Competent to work unsupervised and to supervise others; competent to check and approve the work of others; competent to sign off design certificates on behalf of the company. Conceptual outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options. Preparation, checking and/or approval of feasibility studies, outline and detailed design technical reports and other written documents. Design, checking and approval of detail allocation and construction design. Design, checking and approval of the assessment on the OLE of horizontal and vertical track alignment schemes. Structure gauging. Production and approval of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents. Management of teams of engineers and external suppliers. Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification. Training and development, mentoring of junior staff. Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances. Client and third party liaison. Establishment of internal design standards and/or processes to achieve a continuous improvement in quality and efficiency. Contributing to long term technical development of the office by application of new techniques, procedures and practices. Representing the company on technical matters. To play a key role in recruitment and the continued expansion and development of the team.


    We need someone who has led OLE teams on major Network Rail projects The Jobholder should be thoroughly conversant with the use of MS Office suite, Project Management software is desirable but not essential (P3, Suretrack or MS Project). An understanding of the development of spread sheets is essential. The Jobholder should also be familiar with production of drawings using Microstation CAD package
