Role synopsis
We're looking for adaptable, flexible people to join our Product Testing & Engineering team.

The department has a wide variety of interactions that span the full product range of fuel and lubricant applications across the automotive, industrial, marine and energy sectors. The roles are UK based in support of fuel and lubricant product delivery across the globe, with a strategic planning horizon of up to 5 years.

We work across the product performance area on projects involving numerous activities depending upon your skills and experience, in fact we're flexible on the qualifications and experience you bring so you can be flexible in the work you undertake.

Key accountabilities
Within Product Testing & Engineering, we have a number of key positions that we are hiring into, and are keen to attract a broad range of applicants from a number of technical disciplines.

Depending upon your skills and experience you could find yourself with any of the following accountabilities, all of which enable BP to deliver performance lubricants and fuels. We will give training, so what counts most is your attitude, adaptability, willingness to learn and some relevant skills and experience.

Electronics and Instrumentation
  • Design, develop and installation of electronic, electrical and instrumentation systems for BP testing
  • Implement calibration and maintenance procedures for test equipment and instrumentation
  • Ensuring reliable operation of installed test systems, fault finding, breakdown support
  • Maintain and improve local IT systems; network; hardware and software

Rigs activities:
  • Tribological mechanical testing rigs with understanding of automotive maintenance with fabrication skills sets,
  • Delivering rig tests, post data analysis compiling test reports
  • Reporting test results through evaluation and analysis using metrological equipment

  • Development and operation of unique tests to standard specifications and differentiation testing
  • Working with technicians to ensure clear communication and agreed milestones are achieved
  • Acquisition and analysis of data
  • Report writing

Essential Education
  • A professional vocational qualification or degree in a relevant subject which could be: engineering or scientific related discipline including automotive, IT, electrical, instrumentation and process.

  • Comfortable being accountable and motivated to deliver your own results
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience of working in a technical environment

Other major product development centers for lubricants are in Neuhof (Germany) where all BP's transmission and axle oils are developed, Naperville (US) and Mönchengladbach (Germany), where specialized industrial fluids such as cutting oils and metal forming fluids are formulated. In Wadala (India) the next generation of lubricants for cars, motorcycles and trucks is being developed. The Technology Centre in Shanghai (China) provides technical services for automotive, industrial and marine lubricants. Smaller satellite technology centers provide local technical support to the lubricants businesses and manufacturing operations in the regions.

BP's Fuels Value Chains (FVCs) supply transportation fuels to markets in North America, Europe, Southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the Pangbourne site, Fuels teams are also based in Naperville (US), Bochum (Germany) and Cape Town (South Africa), where they provide direct support to the regional Fuels Value Chain businesses.
