Advisian’s Environment & Water Group team has a reputation for its strength in delivering and consulting solutions to from water resources, floodplain management, river engineering and water balance analysis to environmental impact assessments and planning approvals across infrastructure, mining, private and public projects. It has achieved this by providing the industry with expertise and leadership on a regional and international platform. This opportunity to join our team as a Principal Water Resources Engineer means an opportunity for you to contribute to the further growth and success of Advisian.

  • Deliver discipline specific water resources engineering and consulting services that meet Advisian’s, its clients and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive best practice engineering and investigation skills within the team to solve open channel flow problems, develop floodplain management solutions and conceptually design river engineering works including the design of bank stabilisation systems and hydraulic structures.
  • Initiate, manage and if required, supervise project assignments that meet project requirements on time and within budget.
  • Lead, supervise and prepare investigation reports and provide investigation advice, including flood studies, flood impact assessments and floodplain management studies.
  • Manage direct dealings with Customer and professionally and confidently interact with public stakeholders on floodplain management issues, as required at public presentations.
  • Scope work and tender with accountability for coordinating proposals. Report writing and presentations on related projects and studies.
  • Establish and maintain adherence to project deliverables with respect to Safety, Quality, Cost & Schedule;
  • Practice and promote our OneWay vision and our zero harm to our people and the environment initiatives to all stakeholders and colleagues around us.

What you will bring
  • Extensive technical, practical and leadership experience in water resources mathematical modelling, floodplain management, stormwater management, river engineering, water balance and water quality investigations including experience managing and leading multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • A recognised Civil Engineering degree or equivalent, focused on water resources engineering including hydrology and floodplain management.
  • Extensive experience in undertaking hydrology and open channel flow hydraulics projects, including the use of hydrological models such as RORB, RAFTS and WBNM and hydraulic software such as RMA-2, MIKE Flood, TUFLOW and HEC-RAS
  • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems, data analysis and presentation software including MapInfo or ArcGIS
  • Experience with supervising teams in investigation and resolution of hydraulic engineering problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external clients at senior levels to implement and execute successful business strategies.
  • Experience in leading proposals and bids, including excellent report writing skills.
  • Ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects of various size and complexity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to convey information to a broad range of stakeholders.
