Senior Maintenance Technician

Location: UCLA Cogeneration Facility, Los Angeles


Salary: $40 to 85k with 10% bonus target, 401(k), full benefits, 4/10 schedule

A full time opening exists with a Global Engineering Services Provider for a Senior Maintenance Technician at the Cogeneration and Central Chilling Plant of a major University in the Los Angeles area. The Maintenance Technician works both independently or as part of a small team to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and overhauls/inspections of critical equipment and systems. The ideal candidate will have a broad mechanical skillset and direct experience performing disassembly, overhaul and reassembly of large rotating equipment common to combined cycle power plants such as turbines, pumps, compressors and gearboxes. The position offers competitive salary commensurate with experience, 401(k) with company matching, and performance bonus. Overtime of 10 to 20% may be required.

  • Demonstrated awareness of applicable safe work practices and leadership in safety compliance.
  • Maintains excellent housekeeping at all times, takes responsibility for cleaning and organizing tools back to their proper location at end of work day.

  • Participates in and contributes to routine safety tailgate meetings and pre-job hazard analysis.
  • Completes assigned routine tasks correctly, on time and without the need for direct supervision or prompting by others.
  • Is available for call-out to support emergent needs during off-hours. Must be able to arrive on-site within one hour of a call.
  • Makes recommendations for improving quality, safety, availability, and compliance
  • Assists with planning and managing spare parts inventory
  • Generates written reports for all completed jobs

What you will bring

Technical and Industry Experience
  • Ability to read and understand complex technical drawings and other related documentation (blueprints, isometrics, P&ID's, schematics, technical procedures)
  • Skilled in use of machine tools, precision measurement tools and associated terminology
  • Knowledgeable of the full range of welding equipment and procedures commonly used in a maintenance environment.
  • Must be an ASME Section IX qualified welder for pipe and/or plate.
  • Clean driving record; Current driver's license; Forklift safety training certification and at least 1 year of forklift operating experience.
  • Rotating equipment overhaul experience - steam turbine or gas turbine experience a plus.
  • Experience working in power generation, petrochemical, or heavy manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Physically able to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs., wear a respirator, work in confined spaces, work at high elevations.
  • Experience with typical Microsoft office applications - Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

  • Training and Certification in safe rigging practices and equipment
  • High School Diploma required; Vocational/Trade School a plus
