As the Ceramic Laboratory Leader, you will support the production plant facility to develop and produce advanced ceramic components.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Ceramic Laboratory Leader, you will:

  • Manage production laboratories related to the following areas:
  • Receiving inspection of ceramic components
  • Receiving inspection of process chemicals and powders
  • Failure analysis of processed and/or returned product
  • Advanced analytical analysis including tools such as XRD, ICP, XRF, Dilatometry, TGA, DTA,
  • Own laboratory equipment selection, purchasing, installation and qualification processes
  • Prepare and maintain work, method and/or equipment instructions / specifications
  • Manage training of both hourly and exempt personnel
  • Manage and balance laboratory workload, highlighting capacity constraints and developing
    solutions to address
  • Develop service contracts where necessary and work with suppliers to proactively maintain
  • Work with materials, quality and sourcing functions to optimize receiving inspection process
  • Develop analytical methods. Work with Global Research to develop more complex or more
    effective methods as necessary
  • Manage calibration/standardization of lab equipment
  • Manage data produced by the labs, working with IT to insure data is collected and stored
  • Participate in quality planning for new processes / products
  • Conduct internal audits and assessments
  • Recognize improvement opportunities and work with stakeholders to identify and implement
    effective corrective and preventative actions
  • Establish an environment that encourages open communication whereby ideas and
    suggestions are exchanged and balanced decisions are made
  • Be a significant contributor to problem solving and failure analysis, by creatively developing protocols and identifying defects

  • Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math)
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated performance with Ceramic Components in analytical or laboratory roles

  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Material Science
  • Demonstrated competency in laboratory management and analytical techniques
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross functionally with technology, process and quality engineering and support functions
  • Prior experience in high volume manufacturing
  • Prior experience in quality (QA, QC, and/or QE)
  • Prior experience in ISO (or equivalent) certified quality management systems
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills
  • Familiarity with shop floor MES systems
  • Proficient user of Excel, Access and Minitab
  • Innovative thinker
  • Ability to work independently
  • Desire to work flexibly in a new business unit start-up
