The Contact Mechanics Engineer - Applied Mechanical Technologies (AMT), will design experiments and execute programs to explore and develop the understanding to define acceptable design spaces for many contact interfaces of the gas turbine.

Essential Responsibilities

You will work collaboratively with multiple GE Power organizations across Engineering, Manufacturing and Repair to deliver real component and system level solutions in the areas wear, fretting, and fretting fatigue. While primarily supporting GE Power's NPI (New Product Introduction) strategies and legacy fleet management, some programs will involve supporting efforts from other GE businesses.

Applied Mechanical Technologies Life Methods is committed to developing methods and processes that enable us to successfully execute our GPS (Gas Power Systems) and PGS (Power Generation Services) strategies. AMT is very product focused and supports our Systems and Module design teams in the development of new and next generation Gas Turbine components, and our Services and Repair teams in the development of technologies that add value for our customers and our business.

As the Contact Mechanics Engineer - Applied Mechanical Technologies, you will:
• Be responsible for the development and execution of contact mechanics test programs designed to identify design space that meets engineering requirements
• Design of custom test rigs to address specific issues and answer critical questions may be required
• Identify opportunities to advance the state-of-the-art of the technology and testing methods to further realize and validate component capability
• Work collaboratively with the Engineering, Sciences, Test, Manufacturing and Repair organizations to effectively exploit and implement technical solutions that improve product designs and add value for the customer and GE Power
• Review work with Controlled Title Engineers and Chief Engineers as appropriate
• Author or co-author updates to design practices as required
• Protect GE Power intellectual property, filing Invention Disclosure Letters as appropriate
• Stay current with academic & industry technology trends, conference proceedings, etc
• Drive continuous improvement and simplification projects that eliminate waste and increase speed
• Communicate progress to senior leadership, customers and stakeholders


• Master's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

• Occasional travel required
• Demonstrated hands-on ability to use contemporary engineering tools (solid modeling, finite element, etc)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Doctor of Philosophy with experience in Tribology or related Material Science
• Gas turbine design and analysis engineering experience
• Willingness to be challenged and learn new technologies and skills
• Enthusiastic self-starter
