Position Summary

Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established practice and we have a need for a new Bridge Inspector to join our team. This person will inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure that contractors build bridges and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Perform work related to transportation engineering activities such as laboratory tests, design data collection, construction record-keeping and traffic control inspection. Employee at this level performs work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work and bridges.
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure that work is in compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Complete pay sheets for actual work completed.
  • Conducts laboratory sampling.
  • Inspect barricades and report deficiencies on inspection checklist to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
  • Maintain a daily activity of work in progress and status of completion and discusses construction related problems with supervisor.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • High school graduate or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 3 + years CEI bridge inspection experience is required
  • Must be able to handle basic geometric mathematical calculations involving linear distances, areas, and volumes
  • Must be able to read plans and specifications and have a good grasp of complex construction means and methods
  • Must have good written and communication skills
  • Must have reasonable computer skills and be literate in MS Word and Excel
  • Must have the ability to complete advanced level inspector qualification courses needed including FDOT CTQP classes for Earthwork, Asphalt, Concrete, Advanced MOT, Pile Driving, Drill Shafts, Roadway Lighting, and Traffic Signalization
  • Candidates that are selected will have to pass a mandatory drug screen and the FL Motor Vehicle record will be examined
  • Must have a good driving record
  • College education is preferred
