Jacobs' Atlanta-based tunnel engineering group designs tunnels and other underground structures for water, wastewater, and transportation projects. The group is currently working on some of the largest underground construction projects under design and construction in the USA. We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team of experienced tunneling and geotechnical professionals in Atlanta. This role offers potential for career growth, and the opportunity to work on major underground projects.


In this role you will be primarily responsible for designing:

• Underground structures such as tunnel and shaft linings, junctions, connecting tunnels and shaft covers.
• Wastewater/water intake facilities, gate structures and diversion channels.
• Cut and cover tunnels and earth retaining structures.
• Pump stations and associated facilities.
• Deep and shallow foundation systems.

Other duties will include:

• Bid document and specification preparation.
• Structural design of water/wastewater treatment plants and water retaining structures.
• Participate in business development opportunities.
• Undertake independent technical review of structural analyses prepared by others.
• Conduct structural reviews and investigations of existing structures.
• Site inspections and submittal reviews during construction.

• Bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering required. MS degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
• Registered Professional Engineer required.
• 10+ years of structural engineering experience required with ability to travel throughout USA and Ability to work in underground environments and walk over rugged ground surfaces.
• Experienced in structural engineering design of reinforced concrete and steel required.
• Experience performing structural analyses and design work for tunnels, water/wastewater treatment plants, water conveyance and retention structures, retaining walls, excavation support, deep and shallow foundation systems required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of building design codes required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills required.
• Experience in directing teams of engineers and technicians required.
• Experience with 2D and 3D structural modelling utilizing analysis software, such as STAAD pro preferred.
• Experience in concrete materials including developing mix designs, concrete durability assessments, mass concrete, and admixtures selection preferred.
• Seismic design experience preferred.
