The Lead Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Operational
• Compliance with the Quality and Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) rules from the project, business, sector and corporate within the own area of responsibility.
• Ensure a coordinated approach in all areas with the other engineering disciplines.
• Ensure leadership and motivation by establishing an open and broad communication of the principles, objectives and targets of the project including the feedback communication.
• Maintain training needs analysis, for the planning, execution and follow-up of appropriate training, as required for project members.

Specific to the Engineering function:
The Lead Engineer has the technical, cost and schedule responsibility for the engineering scope of supply and/or services, from project take-over from Tendering, until hand-over to Thermal Service and/or Operation and Maintenance (O&M) organization.

• Representative for the engineering scope of supply and services in the project team and in technical meetings towards the customer.
• Manage the team in charge of the engineering scope of supply. Take-over the project from Tendering, review/comment and reach agreement on the actual project documentation; scope of supply and DoW, cost-calculation incl. supplier offers for tendering purposes, "Delta list", showing the differences between a reference power plant and the contacted plant, technical and commercial contract documentation.
• Ensure that the design is in accordance with applicable rules, regulations codes and standards, contractual requirements and according to good engineering practice, specifically with regard to environmental aspects and health & safety of site personnel, operators, maintenance personnel and third parties.
• Support the engineering line managers in identifying the need for training of engineers, for the efficient and effective application of engineering methods.
• Make the contract review and issues risk sheets, design review needs and concepts needs.
• Review and support preparation of the System Time Schedule (STS).
• Conduct start-up meeting with the assigned engineers.
• Ensure the follow-up of the engineering progress processes and the corresponding work instructions.
• Ensure timely and effective communication within the project team.
• Coordinate the information workflow with the PEM and other Project Lead Engineers and mitigate in case of issues/concern areas.
• Ensure fulfillment of design, quality, constructability and functionality of the scope of supply and services at an optimum cost, according to the project and contractual requirements.
• Support design reviews and the design freeze and ensure that corrective actions defined by the design reviews are closed on time.
• Support PEM in claim negotiations and preparation of relevant documentation and facts.
• Support the PEM to achieve the cost targets together with the PPLM, for the complete scope of supply and service for the project.
• Ensure experience feedback from the project to the Experience Response System (ERS).
• Support the site by ensuring processing of Non Conformance Reports (NCR).
• Compile the project documentation and organize proper archiving of all project-relevant documents with the applicable tools.
• Release of Field Service Instructions (FSI) to the PEM. Ensure 'As-Built' documentation is managed as directed by the PEM.
• Responsible for O&M documentation for scope of supply and services.
• Hand-over of the engineering activity scope including final documentation archived in Plant PDM (Project Technical Documentation Management System) to customer service.

2. Specific Functional/Technical authority (besides DoA):

• Authority to check technical documents.
• Right to nominate the engineers together with the Group Leader and / or Head of Engineering Discipline.


Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Working experience of 6-8 years in piping and Support Engineering in power plants (preferably combined cycle power plants) using tools such as PDMS/E3D, AutoCAD and/or Rohr-2.
