Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing Industrial Gas Turbine Electrical Packaging Systems to support Siemen's complete range of Industrial Gas Turbine products. In this role, an Electrical Engineer will have an impact by helping Siemens Energy to develop world class products which will help the company to become the number one choice for customers for Distributed Generation.
The Electrical Engineer will work in an Electrical Design team comprising of Electrical Engineers and Electrical System Modelers (CAD related) and will report to the Electrical Design Capability Lead. Electrical Design team is one of the legs of Proposals and Order Implementation organization which is part of the Distributed Generation division of Power Generation business unit for Siemens Energy, Inc.

The Electrical Engineer will primarily work on Electrical Engineering tasks for:
• Customer contracts for Power Generation Market.
• Some amount of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
• Developing new Electrical Standards and Options for Industrial Gas Turbine Packaging Systems
• Maintaining Electrical Standards and Options for Industrial Gas Turbine Packaging Systems

Key objectives of the position include (but not limited to):
• Continuous improvement of Siemens products and processes
• Maintaining workplace and product safety
• Maintaining high quality of engineering documentation and design for customer projects
• Continuous improvement with efficiency in using Siemens Engineering tools
• Ability to work towards project schedules and meeting on time delivery of engineering documents and design
• Supporting and troubleshooting issues during the build cycle and during the installation and commissioning of the Industrial Gas Turbine Package

Specific Electrical Engineering tasks include (but not limited to):
• Create definition of instrumentation systems and low voltage power distribution systems for gas turbine packages used in oil and gas and power generation applications.
• Deliver designs to meet local codes based on worldwide location and customer specifications to ensure the standard design meets the requirements such as:
o Electrical safety: NFPA/NEC, IEC, and CSA standards
o Hazardous (explosive) areas: ATEX, IEC and NFPA codes
o Fire detection and suppression systems: NFPA and other codes
• Ability to work with and create the following documents:
o Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's) which includes definition of key system parameters such as set points, definition of control sequence, flows, pressures and temperatures throughout the system
o Low voltage single line diagrams
o Wiring schematics and customer interface documents
o Electrical assembly drawings
o Bill of Materials
• Working with the following equipment: Sensors, Actuators, Motors, Lighting, and Fire detection and suppression systems.
• Prepare low / medium voltage one-line diagrams for electrical distribution systems.
• Review vendor's documentation, customer specifications and prepare Global Procurement Specifications required to meet project requirements for low voltage motor control centers.
• Perform low voltage, single and three phase and medium voltage electrical power distribution system analysis for equipment sizing, load flow, short circuit, arc flash energy.
• Work with a diverse range of equipment including DC/DC and DC/AC solid state converters, solid-state relays, motor drives, transfer switches, overcurrent protection coordination, and ground grid calculations.
• Prepare feasibility studies and schematic design packages of lighting, power systems, etc.
• Create definitions of uninterruptable power supplies systems
• Develop Protection Relay settings and calculations for Ground Fault, Differential, Reverse Power, Phase Fault, Over current, Under Current, Loss of Field, Over Excitation, Over/Under Voltage, Off-Frequency, Inadvertent Energization, Negative Sequence, Rotor Earth Fault
• Establish project schedules and coordinate activities to meet established dates.
• Write validation procedures and perform tests and report results effectively.
• Participate in factory tests including customer witness tests / factory acceptance tests.
• Evaluate and promote standards and design methods.
• Liaise with procurement and suppliers to source systems and/or components.
• Work in teams with Project Lead Engineers, Mechanical engineers and Controls Engineers and with various functions throughout the organization such as marketing, test and assembly, and drafting.
• Support cost control of the system design within established budgets.
• Must be available to provide phone support for system start-ups on a 24/7 basis when needed.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 2+ years prior work experience in an Electrical Engineering role or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 1-2 years of experience in Rotating Machinery Packaging or similar industry.
• 1-2 years of experience in the specification and design of instrumentation, ideally for gas turbines.
• Deep knowledge of electrical safety and grounding.
• Strong IT skills including experience of Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel.
• Strong time management skills.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team environment but can also be self-directed.
• Ability to travel both domestically and internationally 5-20% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with selection and sizing of Sensors, Actuators, Motors, Lighting, Fire detection and suppression systems, low voltage motor control centers.
• Understanding of hazardous (explosive) area protection.
• Experience in the power generation markets, petrochemical industry or oil & gas markets and knowledge of American Petroleum Institute (API) codes and NEC/IEC standards.
• Experience with the following software packages: ePLAN, DOORs, NX Team center, CAD.
