Job Description
Position Overview
The Balance of Plant (BOP) Thermal Component Engineering group is responsible for the specification, selection, design review, quality control, and expediting of software for simple and combined cycle power plant equipment.
The successful applicant for this position may work with the following components and systems, but is not limited to:
• Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG)
• Cooling Towers (CT)
• Air Cooled Condensers (ACC)
• Conventional Boilers
• Auxiliary Boilers
• Rotor Air Cooler Kettle Boiler (RACKB)
• Feedwater Heaters (FW)
• Deaerator Feedwater Tank
• Air Quality Control System
• Fin-Fan Closed Loop Cooler

The entire life cycle of the equipment is managed and coordinated within the engineering team, commencing with proposal support and contract award, through construction / commissioning and plant startup.
• Fluent in use of SAP document control system.
• Support the Proposals Department in developing proposals for combined cycle plants which require any or all of the above components and systems.  Work with suppliers to provide performance data, pricing, and availability to support Proposals Department deliverables.
• Write generic and site-specific technical specifications for any or all of the above components and systems.  Develop Master Document List (MDL) to clarify supplier software deliverables and due dates.
• Evaluate competitive bids from suppliers to ensure they meet the requirements of the technical specification.  Create bid tabulation to compare proposals from various suppliers.   Support Supply Chain Management in conducting e-bids and e-auctions as necessary.
• Conduct design review with chosen equipment supplier to ensure all requirements of the technical specification are understood and will be met.  Discuss lessons learned from previous projects and what changes can be incorporated to improve quality and reduce non-conformances and delays.
• Coordinate with Architect/Engineers, partners, and Customers to support timely transmittal and understanding of supplier technical documents.  Participate in Architect/Engineer design reviews as needed to ensure correct integration of mechanical components to the plant design.
• Ensure on-time delivery of supplier software (documents) for current projects, and expedite as necessary.  Review design documents submitted by suppliers and approve or comment.  Conduct regular meetings with suppliers to ensure good communication, and keep track of open items through regular reporting.
• Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for any or all of the above components and systems.  Ensure all components are thoroughly tested and meet the performance and quality requirements established in the technical specification.
• Support commissioning and start-up activities for any or all of the above components and systems.  Conduct readiness reviews, and participate in pre-commissioning activities with supplier Technical Field Assistants (TFAs).
• Respond to Architect/Engineer and site requests for information (RFIs); engineering changes to manufacturing information (ECMIs); product change management (PCM) recommendations; and field deficiency reports (FDRs) related to any or all of the above components and systems.
• Ensure project equipment and manpower costs are maintained within budget, and minimizing the occurrence and impact of non-conformances.  Maintain database of field deficiency reports (FDRs) related to any or all of the above components. If FDR is incorrectly assigned to the department, provide rationale to support your contention.  If FDR is correctly assigned to the department, document root cause analysis and lessons learned to avoid similar problems on future projects.
• Conduct continuous improvement meetings with suppliers once project has been completed to improve quality and reduce non-conformances and delays on future projects.
• Support any aspect of the team's objectives that are assigned (not limited to any one discipline within plant engineering).

The ideal candidate would also have experience in the following areas relative to the equipment identified above:

• Thermodynamic, mechanical, or structural design
• Application of the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code and relevant ASME piping codes within boiler systems
• Analysis and design of power plant system / component operation, startup, and shutdown
• Experience developing testing specifications, checking the instrumentation, control systems and evaluating the results including the system performance and heat balance.
• The individual shall be proficient with several computer aided thermal modeling codes, statistics, risk management, and process design tools.
• Experience with the design of plant cooling and condensing components

Manufacturing / Quality

• Knowledge of relevant welding techniques and NDT methods to inspect work-in-process
