Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

This is a Customer Contact position and the Estimator will be required to design and manage projects in a given geographic area.

This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining.

In an effort to better represent the communities we serve, further consideration will be given to candidates living within 25 miles of the Oakland headquarters.


- Possess high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must have a valid Class C California Driver's License or ability to obtain by first day of employment
- Internal PG&E employees: Must have qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB), Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) and Technical Test (TECH) exams prior to applying
- External and Hiring Hall applicants: Must qualify on the Physical Test Battery (PTB), Work Orientation Inventory (WOI) and Technical Test (TECH) exams prior to interviewing

- Bachelor's degree OR equivalent work experience
- Relevant experience at PG&E or through Hiring Hall
- Experience with cost estimating and utilizing Fast Flow Estimating tool (FFE)
- Experience utilizing AutoCAD
- Experience utilizing SAP
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent Customer Service Skills


- Timely, clear, concise communication with PG&E's customers; both phone and written.
- Utilize organizational skills to manage project workload from customer's application submission through the construction of the job, meter installation and ensure accurate monthly energy billing.
- Manage your calendar to prioritize tasks and meetings; both field and office appointments.
- Foster positive working relationships with other PG&E personnel and departments.
- Prepare cost estimates and construction drawings.
- Make design sketches and prepare layouts for construction of additions or improvements to electric systems of such a nature that the plans and methods are embodied in existing standards, specifications, rules, and regulations.
- Estimate labor and material costs; obtain joint-pole agreements; initiate right-of-way procedures, and permits, etc., and perform such other work as required to prepare the estimate in final form.

- Complete all Company provided safety and training courses as offered.
