We currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical engineer within our Water team based in Inverness. The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities. The successful candidate will be part of a small, diverse, technically proficient and friendly office.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking investigation works: Gathering relevant information to enable design projects and specifications. This will involve travel and occasionally a number of days away from home. Jacobs travel policy is for the use of Public transport where practicable however where car journeys are required a valid Driving licence is required.
  • Liaising with the design teams, contractors and clients in order to deliver the projects.
  • Preparing reports and design documentation.
  • Dealing with technical, quality, H&S and customer service as part of delivery.
  • This post involves working in a multi discipline team to produce completed designs, reports and drawings for Scottish Water but also other water companies within the UK Reporting to the principal mechanical engineer within the office.
  • Completing hydraulic and technical calculations in order to size and identify pump, valves and equipment from those calculations.
  • The candidate shall provide a proactive approach to work load planning with the ability to meet deadlines, to be analytical and problem solving along with attention to detail and creative thinking.


  • A 2:1 Degree or above / MA in mechanical or relevant engineering discipline. Working towards Member of Professional Institution i.e (IMech)
  • Driving licence
  • Hydraulics
  • P&IDs
  • An ability to work in a Team
  • A desire to Learn
  • To be flexible
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel and Word is expected.
  • Good report writing, analytical and computer skills.


  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD / Solidswork is an advantage
  • Ventilation experience would be advantageous but not essential
  • Experience of CAD would be an advantage
