Department Description
The Construction Project Manager acts as Vestas' owner representative to manage design, development and assessment of building constructions, primarily in North America. In addition, this role directs, manages, and implements project execution plans for multiple complex industrial design projects. Coordinates project planning, contract administration, project execution and closeout. This position coordinates with design team, contractors, consultants, engineers and key internal stakeholders to manage risk, cost, schedule and quality of the finished facilities.

The position includes revolving assessment of our building and land assets, including reporting on condition and suggestions for maintenance, repairs and replacement.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, plans and entire scope of work including contracts, specifications, schedule, logistics, labor, materials, equipment, submittal requirements, quality control, and material resource requirements, legal and permit documentation, safety, and other project requirements.
  • Oversee and actively coordinate design processes with design and engineering teams as necessary to ensure final designs align with costs and schedule objectives established in the cost estimate while satisfying contract requirements.
  • Identify, monitor and control risk, procurement and cost control; review cost estimate and monitor productivity, resource requirements, suppliers and knowledge of estimate methodology for all projects.
  • Manage overall financial wellbeing of projects; make necessary budget management decisions; coordinate with finance/accounting to develop and implement procurement plan, cost codes and purchase order process, execution, and ensure timely payments .
  • Coordinate with engineering and design teams regarding change order process; review and approve all shop drawings.
  • Function as main point-of-contact for owner and as on-site representative; resolve all site concerns; provide frequent interaction to build positive and effective working relationships; responsible for dispute resolution.
  • Develop communication plan and act on behalf of Vestas as owner representative in all team meetings. Lead all internal meetings regard project plan, schedule, process and ongoing status. Prepare weekly/monthly reports for review with senior leadership.
  • Manage permit process; coordinate with local planning and building agencies to ensure all required permits are in place prior to execution.
  • Identify and assure implementation of project safety plan and quality control plan.
  • Develop and implement site requirements for records management.
  • Prepare and submit all close-out data required by the contract including as-built drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, reports, and other required documentation
  • Conduct an analysis of all costs and man-hour production rates. Document explanation of variances and prepare findings for presentation in a post-project review. Schedule and coordinate post-project review.
  • Perform/ participate in assessment of Vestas assets in the range of Building, Land and Installations.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • The position will have a functional report into the head of Vestas RE&FM Global function: Building Construction.
  • Four-year construction management, engineering, architecture is required.
  • Five years or more of progressive experience/knowledge of construction, design, finance, and management required; experienced managing large-scale industrial and all elements of complex building projects; manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize team and project performance.
  • Strong detail orientation to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices; thorough understanding and adoption of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills.
  • Superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are essential; ability to express ideas clearly to others at all organizational and trade levels.
  • Excellent business administration experience required; commitment to quality and ability to represent Vestas' business interests.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership; ability to plan, direct, and coordinate an entire activity or the activities of others.
  • Able to evaluate information from many different sources and analyze problems logically to develop solutions.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Ability to make decisions based on experience and informed personal judgment.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties that may change often.
  • Microsoft Office, project and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to travel on behalf of business and project as required.
