Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

The Electric Safety Supervisor will be responsible for the implementation, oversight and record keeping of the PG&E - Contractor Safety Standard and the T&D Contractor Safety Procedure as they apply to the Substation Line of Business. This position will report to the Superintendent of Substation Construction Inspection. The Substation Construction Inspection (SCI) team is a department of Electric Transmission Operation's Substation Project Delivery and Engineering Organization. The SCI group is responsible for the construction oversight and scheduling of electrical and civil construction contractors on medium to large distribution and transmission substation projects in and around high voltage facilities throughout PG&E's service territory. The successful candidate will be interacting with the SCI Construction Supervisors, the Substation Maintenance and Construction (M&C) Supervisors and field employees and as such, will require jobsite visits at High Voltage Substations. Field visits will require the wearing of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including Flame Resistant (FR) clothing. This position may require overnight travel.


• 5 years of experience as a Safety Professional or other relevant job experience
• High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

• Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science or job-related discipline or equivalent experience.
• HFACS - Human Factor Analysis Classification System certification
• Industry-recognized certifications such as CSP, ASP, CUSP, CHST or other
• Experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and/or Apparent Cause Evaluation (ACE)
• Extensive work experience with an emphasis on safety in a high voltage or other industrial setting
• Supervisor and/or leadership experience
• Ability to work with various computer applications including the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project) or other productivity or database software applications
• Strong written and oral communication skills


• Supervision & Leadership: Lead a team of PG&E employees, contract support or consultants as necessary to manage Contractor Safety for the Substation Line of Business. Monitor all work performed to ensure quality and compliance conform to Company standards. Ensure PG&E employees are properly trained and Contractors are fully qualified. Develop, monitor and adjust performance targets for employees. Identify development needs of employees and provide coaching and mentoring to improve their knowledge and skills.
• Work Management: Develop work schedules and resource allocation plans. Maintain and report progress and status of adherence to Contractor Safety Standard. Analyze problems and implement cost effective solutions in a timely manner. Be knowledgeable of all Substation Safety standards. Resolve disputes in an equitable and ethical manner. Generate reports to illustrate compliance of the Contractor Safety Standard and to identify areas for improvement.
• Teamwork & Customer Satisfaction: Build effective working relationships with M&C Supervisors, peers, workgroup, project management, engineering, Contractors and other groups.
• Coaching & Development: Develop and maintain a qualified workforce that operates in full compliance with regulatory and Company requirements. Coach, mentor and develop employees. Provide timely communication and feedback to employees and ensure all employees are aligned with the department's strategic priorities, goals and key initiatives.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure Company and Contract personnel comply with the PG&E Contractor Safety Standard, Electric T&D Contractor Safety Procedure, and with all laws, regulations, and Company policies, standards and bulletins. Provide leadership to foster a safe work environment by observing and enforcing safe work practices. Review and accept contractors Sight Specific Safety Plans and conduct frequent site observations to ensure compliance of contractors with their safety protocols. Evaluate safety near hits and incidents and partner with contractors to develop remedies and corrective measures to eliminate hazards. Meet with Contractors to foster a collaborative approach to Contractor safety and build partnerships to meet shared objectives.
