Provides systems engineering support services within the scope of the program/project in accordance with Advanced Systems Division processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs systems software engineering tasks in a system environment that includes PC, and/or special purpose systems.

• Plans and designs software systems.

• Develops and maintains diagnostic software and work products for acceptance testing, validation, and fault isolation for specific systems operating in a systems environment.

• Applies system engineering techniques to produce efficient and maintainable systems software that runs in a systems environment used for data acquisition, display and other capabilities.

• Attends meetings and prepares and reviews technical reports and software documentation.

• Completion of employee performance appraisals and employee counselings, if assigned the responsibilities of employee supervision.

Educational Requirements:
  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and 7 years of related experience, or a PhD degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and 2 years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • System engineering principles, methods, and practices in the assigned specialty area
  • Systems development life cycle management concepts; to include requirements, planning and test planning activities
  • Performance monitoring principles and methods
  • Quality assurance principles
  • Technical documentation methods and procedures
  • Systems security methods and procedures
  • Analytical methods
  • Oral and written communication techniques sufficient to accomplish assignments such as:
  • perform routine and recurring assignments in the specialty area
  • identify and resolve issues and problems
  • prepare and update manuals, instructions, and operating procedures
  • provide information and assistance to customers
  • evaluate established methods and procedures and prepare recommendations for changes in methods and practices where appropriate
  • ensure the application of appropriate security measures to the assignment.
  • Working knowledge of requirements, design, and test management systems such as DOORS and Enterprise Architect.
  • Working knowledge of systems design and developing systems software.
  • G eneral knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and industry standards and how to apply these standards when designing time-critical systems software is required.
  • Experience in working with software engineers to refine system designs and troubleshoot distributed system problems is required.
  • Experience with systems programming with the PC Windows operating systems; and experience with software programming languages such as C++ and C#.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Inside office environment/cubicle. (Considerations: closed quarters, close together, limited lighting) Must be able to commute between buildings to support work requirements. Independent transportation necessary to support work requirements and to arrive at work site. No hazards on job site or any unusual environmental condition exists.

Physical Requirements

Working at a computer or desk (Considerations: sitting, eyes, hands). May involve long periods of sitting or standing depending on current tasking.

  • Personal computer (75%)

  • Scanner (5%)

  • Copy machine (5%)

  • Telephone (5%)

  • Laser printer (5%)

  • Fax machine (2%) and other office equipment including desk supplies.

  • Work hours between Monday-Friday to be determined by supervisor. Position may require occasional weekend work depending on task requirements. Regular attendance is extremely important.

Other Essential Functions
  • Clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.

  • Ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.

  • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

  • Must pass drug testing.

  • Must be able to read and write effectively in English.
