Job Description
Position Overview:

Participates in semi-complex maintenance, enhancement, testing and support of existing hardware. Participates in semi-complex design, development, testing, and modification of hardware. Supports the quality process by the rigorous and detailed execution of module, sub-system and system test procedures. Participates with designing, developing, and implementing semi-complex hardware solutions while adhering to manufacturing capabilities. Provides support in maintaining all engineering documentation to support a design effort. Participates in estimating semi-complex task duration. Provides supports in reviewing semi-complex specifications and other documentation to determine hardware engineering requirements.


Performs important areas of standard professional level work that typically requires processing and interpreting more complex, less clearly-defined issues. Refers semi-complex, unusual problems to others. Identifies and resolves readily identifiable, clearly-defined problems.  Determines best methods for hardware requirements.  Generates sketches, drawings, acceptance tests, and manuals together with other engineers to determine that all hardware requirements have been met for a project.  

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education & Experience:

•Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or related discipline required
•AutoCAD, E-plan or equivalent required
•5+ years of successful experience in related field
•Ability to take high level hardware descriptions and create detailed electrical schematic drawings.
•Siemens' hardware knowledge required - such as Simatic and Sinamics
•2D Hardware layout design and drawing experience required
•Knowledge of ANSI and IEC drawing standards required

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education & Experience:

•Industry knowledge in Marine, Minerals, Oil & Gas and/or Pulp & Paper
•PLC/HMI programming and configuration experience
•Knowledge of Siemens S5 and/or S7 PLCs
•Field service background a plus
•Industrial experience with direct experience in power electronics, VFD's (AC/DC), and electrical machinery
•Understands variable frequency drives and their applications
•Siemens manufacturing practices

Direction of Others:   May provide general guidance or train lower level support staff.   

Key Working Relationships:   Primarily intra-organizational contacts and some external contacts.
