Job Description
Position Overview:

The role of CNC Application Engineer is to provide expert level support on Siemens Machine Tool Automation products and solutions across a wide range of applications.  The CNC Application Engineer will partner with Machine Tool Automation Account Managers and Business Developers to become their trusted technical partner for all Machine Tool related opportunities.   

This position reports to the Machine Tool Application Engineering Manager within the Motion Control Business Unit.  A deep knowledge of the current Siemens CNC platform along with the associated Drives, Motors and Automation products is required for this position. Experience in non-Siemens CNC products will be considered as training on Siemens products will be available.


•CNC Applications Engineer is responsible for assisting Machine Tool OEMs to adapt Siemens technology to an OEM's machine.
•The technology is Sinumerik CNC, Simatic PLC, Sinamics servo/spindle drives and motors, HMI (Human/machine interface), and shop floor information systems.
•The job roles include pre-sales consultation and solutions development coupled with post-sales solutions implementation, debug and test.
•The primary focus is on new machines and new systems for retrofitting existing machines.  As one of the company's subject matter experts the CNC Application Engineer also supports colleagues from the aftermarket business.
•The applications engineer must be diplomatic and courteous in his interfacing with a wide range of OEM and final user personnel.
•Interfacing with German headquarters troubleshooting on topics requiring factory interaction
•Applications engineering at the OEM level is a job for an intensely technical person who can take on the broader business tasks as well.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:

•BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•5 + years' experience in CNC control application support and development.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Candidate must be highly driven and self-motivated
•Travel can be 50-75% of working hours
•Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge machine tool automation through successful completion of moderately complex assignments.  Specific capabilities include PLC programming, Drives optimization, CNC workpiece programming and HMI development.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:

•Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial.
•Computer skills required: Microsoft Office, some programming experience including C++ and .NET.
•Sizing Servo and non-Servo applications for variable speed drives.
