Job Description
Position Overview

Test engineer reports to the Director of Product Compliance and Testing within the R&D department.  This position assists the Lab Manager and Engineering Technicians in satisfying our internal customers' requirements by producing accurate, repeatable, and timely test data.

• Interfacing with customers to convert difficult technical content into a test implementation capable of producing the required data
• Creation of or setup of test fixtures, circuits, data acquisition, etc. required to produce the required data
• Creation or update from Engineering Test Procedures
• Maintenance of facility or any lab equipment as required
• Performance of testing
• Lead by example for all lab safety related items
• Level III support for external customer field service issues
• Testing includes hardware and software testing at the component, sub-assembly, sub-system, and system level.


Lead effort for Zero Harm Culture with respect to all aspects of lab safety by example.  Work with research engineers to design and develop tests and test methods to advance product development and all RCA efforts.  Assist lab manager with design and implementation of automated test beds for HW and SW testing, all lab procedures, and maintaining interface and knowledge of all VFD related standards.  Work with lab manager and technicians as part of the level III support team providing advanced troubleshooting and expertise in all areas of medium voltage VFD's
Perform testing, create test setup and/or test fixtures, create test plan and procedures:
• Electrical function of HW components including Heat Run and Load Test with active & passive load.
• Perform type test according type test plan.  
• High voltage testing including EMI/ Insulation / Partial Discharge.  
• Of existing functions for every new SW version including Regression & Compatibility, new functions & comparison of the programmed function with the description of the function (feature description).  

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Education:    BS/BA in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge:   Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of Electrical and Test Engineering through successful completion of moderately complex assignments. Successfully applies complex knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in Electrical and Test Engineering.  Demonstrates knowledge of organization's business practices and problem resolution methods.
Experience:   Typically 5-8 years of successful experience in related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Knowledge and experience with VFD's and motors is preferred.
