Job Description
Position Overview

Join a collaborative group of engineers and product definers who provide rapid and innovative solutions to repair and modernize customer owned power generation equipment. The Siemens Charlotte Generator Service Projects department is expanding our service offerings and is seeking an experienced candidate as an essential member in driving this growth. This senior level engineering position will support the manufacturing and repair of Fossil Power and Industrial Generator and Excitation equipment in the Generator Service Projects Production Engineering department of the Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub. Serving Siemens and non-Siemens system needs, the Energy Hub provides a full array of repair services for both planned and unplanned equipment outages.

Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub is the company's worldwide hub for 60Hz fossil power generation equipment manufacturing and service, with additional capabilities for the 50Hz market. With its current workforce of 1,500 and approximately 1.2 million square feet of space under roof, Siemens is the largest manufacturer in the city and the second largest in terms of employment among the 250+ energy companies based in Charlotte.

This position will work in a team environment where collaboration and knowledge sharing is expected. In addition to designing repair solutions for customer equipment, the position will also have the opportunity to work on product development for new service offerings and opportunities. Close cooperation with manufacturing operations is expected to drive technical issue resolution, product improvements, and process improvements.


• Develop detailed design assessments, analysis, and engineering instructions to support manufacturing operations associated with the service repair of generator and exciter products
• Lead service R&D programs with a particular focus on identifying new growth opportunities
• Perform reverse engineering as necessary to develop customer solutions
• Partner with manufacturing operations by providing technical advice, co-operative problem solving, disposition of product deviations, and execution of design improvements
• Provide technical support for negotiations of new service orders including travel to customer sites, suppliers, and other manufacturing sites in order to resolve technical issues
• Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing personnel through clear verbal and written instructions, specifications, and reports. Effective presentation skills are necessary

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
• A strong background in the practical application of mechanical engineering fundamentals is a requirement
• 8 to 10 years of successful experience in power generation equipment manufacturing/service and successful demonstration of key responsibilities. Advanced degree may be substituted for experience, where applicable
• Typical travel is 5-10%
*5-10 years of direct industry experience

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

• Intercultural awareness; experience in transatlantic projects
• Ability and flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with frequently changing requirements, schedules and priorities
• Preferred Business bilingual Spanish / English oral, written and presentation skills
• Direct customer facing experience
• Experience in a manufacturing environment or experience supporting a manufacturing facility
• Failure Analysis, Structural Analysis (FEA), Fracture Mechanics, Metals Joining, Non-Destructive Examination, and Programmed Problem Solving (Kepner-Tregoe/Fault Tree) is a plus
