Job Overview:

Assists Environmental Scientists in gathering a wide variety of wetland data and collects samples of a variety of media. May, with experience, interpret and evaluate data. Has strong safety and mechanical experience and knowledge in a variety of applicable sampling and data collection.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Safe equipment operation and maintenance (airboats, outboards, air-cooled engines, trailers, and trucks).
  • Conducts safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and remote sampling locations.
  • Assist field biologists with environmental data collection including conducting vegetation surveys, collection of soil data, navigating and field mapping with GPS, and servicing water quality continuous recorders
  • Assist biologists with data processing and entry
  • Work on coastal restoration projects requiring heavy physical exertion in a variety of difficult field conditions
  • Spend up to 80% of time working in the field
  • Accountable for personal safety and the safety of your team.
Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have outboard boating experience and demonstrate ability to safely tow trailers.
  • Must be familiar with Louisiana coastal terrain.
  • Works on straightforward tasks using established procedures; work is subject to review by others.
  • Depends on others for instruction, guidance and direction.
  • Develops knowledge and skills in basic practices and procedures within own area.
  • Applies basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned work.
  • Solves routine problems by following defined procedures.
  • Manages own time to meet deadlines set by others.
  • Works with others as part of a team. Typically has 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Typical work environment consists of both office setting as well as project field setting.
  • Travel to client sites may also be required.
  • Some physical requirements - lifting less than 50 lbs, heat and cold tolerance.
  • A valid Louisiana Driver's License is required.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Airboat experience desired.
