Job Overview:

The Community Outreach Coordinator located in New York, NY will join an existing project team supporting the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to support post Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. The Community Outreach Coordinator will provide assistance and aids in communication to a community to aid in government regulations, in response to an incident, or as a mediator between clients and the procedures of various entities.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Make/receive high volume phone calls
  • Attend committee meetings and encourage others to attend
  • Translate fliers, construction scope of work and may be required to translate services in public meetings with residents and elected officials
  • Traveling to various NYCHA developments may be required
  • Assists clientele with complex processes, policies, procedures, or laws of a government entity or private sector client in a way that they will understand
  • Distributes marketing or outreach media, such as brochures or web sites, to communicate sustainability issues, procedures, or objectives to meet goals or standards
  • Follows program plans or objectives
  • Supports clientele by arranging individual visits or attend group meetings to provide information on agency services, requirements and procedures
Basic Qualifications:
  • Fluent in Russian required
  • 0-3+ years of experience in field or related area
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint
  • Effective oral, listening, and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to work independently and effective interpersonal skills are required
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • NYCHA resident preferred
  • Experience with CDBG/HUD programs, FEMA, and/or other Disaster Recovery programs is strongly desired

Under Section 3 of the HUD Act of 1968, additional preference will be given to Section 3 residents in the New Jersey area who meet the requirements of this position
