Job Overview:

CB&I is currently recruiting a Principal Mechanical Engineering level candidate, with Fossil Power experience, to support the design engineering function in our Charlotte, NC office. Candidate will act as a lead engineer on key fossil projects for the Mechanical Engineering Function.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Supervise teams of Engineers, Designers, and Drafters
  • Provide information (e.g., man-hours expended and actual issue dates) to project management and project controls. Ensure review and check of mechanical engineering and design deliverables
  • Manage mechanical work activities (e.g., assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure quality). Develop and maintain list of engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, and calculations)
  • Develop and manage budget requirements of mechanical engineering deliverables
  • Monitor team performance and budget compliance
  • Develop and forecast staffing and prepare staffing plan. Coordinate with CAE in implementation of computer software set up
  • Supervise project closeout including as-built documentation. Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, codes and standards
  • Performs a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and design phases of projects. May also support procurement and construction phases or projects with engineering knowledge and experience.
  • Perform detailed technical analysis of complex project issues.
  • Monitor applicable regulatory requirements and stays abreast of regulatory trends. Arrive at sound and prudent decisions, course of action or a conclusion, especially when only limited facts are available. Solve problems quickly.
  • May serve as project manager on technical projects (investigation, analysis and design) in specific areas of expertise. Ability to serve as technical manager on projects and small programs.
  • Work activities include collection and interpretation of engineering data, development of project design basis, development of specifications, and performance of detailed engineering. Engineering Reports are often a work product. Ensures conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering
  • PE License is required. 7-10 years of detailed project engineering experience with a minimum of 5 years as a Lead Engineer
  • Process design experience within the power industry is required
  • Familiar with engineering procedures, mechanical standards and codes (B31.1)
  • Demonstrates a broad technical knowledge of detail combined cycle power plant system design engineering processes and is able to effectively communicate with and lead engineers and non-engineers.
