Be part of the team that delivered GE's efficiency World Record. As a thermal design engineer, you will apply advanced technology to increase gas turbine efficiency and bring power with fewer emissions. You will design components and optimize cooling flow usage in a cross-functional team using advanced manufacturing, high fidelity analysis, and data-analytics. You will leverage the world's largest gas turbine factory and most advanced full scale test facility to improve gas turbines.

Essential Responsibilities

The individual will have involvement in the full life cycle of the product, including new product introduction (NPI), engine validation testing, product cost-out (PCO), and field issue resolutions for the existing fleet. This individual will leverage the world's largest gas turbine factory and most advanced full scale test facility to improve gas turbine design and operation. Essential Responsibilities:
  • Carry out heat transfer analysis and advanced cooling design for heavy duty gas turbine stationary and rotating airfoils and shrouds under direct guidance of a technical leader and in compliance with published
  • Design Templates and Design Practices
    Perform thermal analysis using GE's suite of in-house tools, CFD and Ansys in accordance with established design practices.
    Support new product introduction design execution for all design phases: conceptual, preliminary and detailed.
  • Support turbine testing from detailed instrumentation plans to design validation reviews, post validation test analysis, and part qualification activities.
  • Work closely with performance, aerodynamic and mechanical design teams for successful project execution.
  • Document and report results to component owners and leadership.
  • Support installed fleet by addressing product cost out (PCO) and root cause analysis (RCA), when needed.


  • Bachelors degree in
    relevant Engineering discipline with demonstrated course work or concentration
    in thermal and fluid processes
  • This role requires
    use of technical data subject to U.S. Government export restrictions and this

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • At least 1 year of engineering design experience in gas turbine engines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Use of Ansys, CFD, flow network software
  • Green Belt or Black Belt certification (GE employees only)
  • Demonstrated understanding of heat transfer design methods, gas turbine systems and aerodynamics.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Understanding of internal GE Energy business processes, organizational roles and responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to understand customer requirements and draft plans to meet them
  • Demonstrated Design for Six Sigma Quality Focus and probabilistic approach to problem solving
