The Machine Head Subsystem Engineer will be responsible for defining the machine head requirements of wind turbines and ensuring the design meets these requirements. You will lead product development projects from concept through operation, RCA's, SAFER cases & field issue resolution. You will work with diverse, cross-functional teams to execute component/system trade studies and select the best designs against multiple criteria.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Machine Head Subsystem Engineer you will:
- Identify key product/program risks & mitigation plans
- Coordinate between Engineering, Supply Chain, Field Services, & Manufacturing.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
- Own and define machine head requirements for teams throughout engineering to effectively execute programs. Translate DM1 requirements into more specific technical requirements for COEs
- Work with COEs throughout the design process to ensure the design meets these requirements
- Own the definition of interfaces between components. Conduct 3D model reviews with PDE and component owners. Work with other Subsystem teams as necessary to define and review interfaces between subsystems.
- Drive cost-out within the machine head subsystem - from short-term execution to long-term technology strategy
- Lead EHS reviews of machine head subsystem during NPI programs and for other subsystem modifications
- Leverage, maintain and/or implement certification requirements per component and subsystems for NPI programs and for other subsystem modifications
- Gather simulation, factory, laboratory and field test data to build upon existing system and component capabilities
- Perform system tradeoffs to utilize existing components, identify areas for smart margin, & identify strategic uprates.
- As needed, execute SAFER cases, RCAs, etc
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Drive simplification and standardization best practices into engineering analyses, validation, and program execution
- Execute peer reviews wherever possible to minimize formal design reviews and accelerate design time


• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited college or university
• At least 5 years of experience in an engineering position

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

• At least 4 years of experience in a Wind engineering position
• Experience with mechanical systems & designs, including expertise with drivetrain and/or structural components
• Experience with problem solving tools and techniques
• Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Ability to work in a matrix team environment
• EEDP Graduate (GE employees only)
• Green Belt or Black Belt Certification (GE employees only)
