The Senior Software Architect is responsible for designing and developing software solutions as part of the GE Power software portfolio. The successful candidate will collaborate with software development teams across GE Power to establish and drive industry-leading patterns in software architecture, design and development.

Essential Responsibilities

The Senior Software Architect will have the opportunity to guide software architecture across a wide variety of technologies and domains. Working with a global team, you will drive the successful implementation of software to support cutting edge products in power generation and water technologies.

The Senior Software Architect will:
  • Collaborate with software development teams to create application transformation roadmaps, which define the steps required to refactor legacy applications
  • Foster adoption of Predix within GE Power.
  • Partner with software development teams to take full advantage of Predix capabilities and services as they become available
  • Lead software development teams to implement solutions for cross-functional IT operations, internal business needs and customer facing applications
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, automation and operations teams to establish continuity between all functions
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Software Engineering Maturity Model (SEMM), which is an assessment tool for measuring the effective use of best practices and proper software design patterns at GE Power
  • Collaborate with development teams to facilitate self-assessments using the SEMM
  • Drive adoption of cloud-native services from a variety of IaaS and PaaS providers, such as AWS and CloudFoundry
  • Promote a DevOps culture by educating development teams on topics related to platform and infrastructure
  • Promote the utilization of CI / CD tools for automating builds, testing and deployments
  • Educate teams across GE Power on new cloud capabilities and design patterns through talks, blog posts and group discussion forums


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems (IS), Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 5 years experience with software development using an object oriented programming language (e.g. Java, Ruby, Python, JavaScript)
  • 4 years experience using Unix-like operating systems (e.g. Linux, OSX, BSD)
  • 2 years experience using cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, OpenStack)
  • 2 years experience leading software development teams using Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, XP)
  • 2 years experience using Git

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Comprehensive understanding of object-oriented and service-oriented application development
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo, TravisCI)
  • Experience with PaaS (e.g. CloudFoundry, Heroku, OpenShift)
  • Certification in one or more cloud platforms
  • Certification in one or more agile methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
