The Cloud Architect is responsible for designing and building infrastructure solutions for hosting applications on cloud platforms. The successful candidate will collaborate with software development and support teams across GE Power to effectively utilize cloud services. In addition, the candidate will promote the use of cloud-native services in application design for improving outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Cloud Architect, you will:
  • Collaborate with software development and support teams during the infrastructure design phase to build efficient, reliable and secure solutions
  • Establish and communicate new design patterns via the Cloud Design Pattern Library
  • Drive best practices and sound design principles through the Software Engineering Maturity Model (SEMM)
  • Lead projects to drive the assessment, operationalization and adoption of new technologies, platforms, tools and frameworks
  • Collaborate with enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, automation and operations teams to establish continuity between all functions
  • Participate in complex software development projects in the role of a Solutions Architect
  • Educate teams across GE Power on new cloud capabilities and design patterns through talks, blog posts and group discussion forums


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems (IS), Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Unix-like operating systems (e.g. Linux, OSX, BSD)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Windows server technology
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, Azure, OpenStack)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with software development (e.g. Java, Ruby, Python, JavaScript)

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Understanding of object-oriented and service-oriented application design
  • Experience with software configuration management tools (e.g. Git, SVN)
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
  • Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo, TravisCI)
  • Experience with PaaS (e.g. CloudFoundry, Heroku, OpenShift)
  • Certification in one or more cloud platforms
  • Certification in one or more agile methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
