The Engineering & Science Services and Skills Augmentation (ESSSA) contract provides engineering, scientific and engineering technician support to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. The Jacobs ESSSA Group is comprised of nine companies of Aerodyne, All Points Logistics, Bevilacqua, ERC, Geocent, Jacobs, Lee and Associates, Qualis and Tuskegee. Each company, individually and in combination as the Jacobs Team, brings strong technical capabilities and value-added management strategies to the ESSSA contract. The Jacobs ESSSA Group works across the contract without boundaries governed by the Integrated Team Management Approach (ITMA).

Jacobs ESSSA Group offers a partnership in which you can grow personally and professionally with the advantages of strong leadership, competitive compensation, and rewarding career paths. Come join the team whose work is destined to have a long-range effect on future generations!

Provide systems engineering and systems analysis integration support to the Systems Analysis Branch (EV74), the Systems Modeling Team (SMT), the Space Launch (SLS) Program, and the SLS Elements.

Specific support to be provided and performed includes:
  • Provide oversight, management, and maintenance support for the SLS Program's Design Math Model (DMM) log documentation.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to define model requirements and inputs, model development, model assessment and verification, model validation, and evaluation of design criteria related to operational goals.
  • Assist model owners/developers with the characterization or calculation of the metadata associated with the model.
  • Use parametric, bounding, probabilistic, and/or comparative studies with the models and analyses to better define and reduce risk, uncertainties, and probabilities of failure.
  • Provide input for development and maintenance of tools and databases, input for failure propagation logic model development and quantification, and input for probabilistic risk assessments.
  • Interface with engineering disciplines, SLS, Elements, Safety and Mission Assurance, and outside organizations to define, complete, and communicate the results of the analyses and to verify and validate math models.
  • Measure and track the maturity levels of models and simulations and their metadata across SLS.
  • Serve as a Systems Engineering (SE) Representative for DMMs in support of the EV70 Design & Analysis Sublead.
  • Assist in the development of reference procedures or work instructions for documentation, use, and management of the SLS Program models and simulations.
  • Participate in design reviews, meetings (i.e. team/discipline, TIMs, teleconferences, etc.), working groups, and trade studies.
A Degree in engineering, physical sciences, computer science, mathematics or equivalent fields of study from an ABET-accredited university or specialized engineering knowledge that is related to the task is required. Typical educational requirements are the equivalent of a Master's degree or a BS with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have technical integration experience working with a variety of engineering disciplines as well as with project/program organizations.
  • Excellent mathematical skills and the ability to perform analytical assessments of vehicle systems, subsystems, and components is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated negotiation skills and the ability to breakdown complex problems or issues into manageable pieces to facilitate resolution of technical concerns or issues.
  • Critical thinking, effective communications, and outstanding problem solving skills are required.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relation skills, and presentation skills are required.
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) are required.
  • An understanding of general Modeling & Simulation (M&S) verification, validation, uncertainty, and robustness quantification is desired.
  • Knowledge and/or an understanding of physics based mathematical models, probabilistic risk analysis, Monte Carlo simulations, and MATLAB is desired.
  • Experience with liquid propulsion systems, fluids, thermal, CFD analysis, structural analysis, data analysis, Simulink, and FORTRAN is highly desired.
  • An understanding of the NASA/contractor environment, NASA systems engineering processes, and familiarity with the SLS Program is desired.

Personnel are required to be self-motivated, effective team players familiar with working in a dynamic work environment and to be willing to assume a Systems Integration role in this SLS systems analysis effort.
