In this role, the Civil Engineer will perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and supporting construction and maintenance of Industrial facilities such as roads, railroads, underground utility pipelines, water and sewage systems, waste disposal units, storm water systems, and fire protection systems. The engineer will become familiar with work processes for the Office and the Department. The engineer will also learn the civil engineering software used within this Department.

  • Conceptualizes the initial civil design approach for major phases of large and small land/site development or transportation related projects, has the responsibility for own civil engineering work of aforementioned types of projects
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts own civil work under the supervision of a Senior Civil Engineer. Performs the design and monitors ongoing process of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials, and other outside agencies
  • Resolves a variety of complex problems (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements)
  • Serves as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams
  • Prepare plans and technical specifications, contract documents and estimates
  • Participates in contract bidding and administration: observes project activity on site
  • Performs other duties assigned by a Senior or Lead Engineer or Project Manager
  • Has comprehensive understanding of principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices and standards and their application
  • Responsible for performing all aspects of engineering and design
  • Works under minimal supervision, work is reviewed for adequacy on completion
  • May provide some technical guidance to less experienced design and engineering personnel

  • Independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis within the discipline
  • Develops designs that require innovation and ingenuity
  • Has considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments
  • The Civil Engineer will be expected to travel to job sites, client offices or other Jacobs offices to perform their duties as required
  • 4 - 7 years of progressive work experience in the civil engineering field is required
  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering is required
  • Knowledge of advanced civil engineering techniques is required

  • Knowledge and application of hydrology and hydraulic design is required
  • Knowledge and application of railroad, fire protection, water and waste water treatment design is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills is required and ability to coordinate with other phases of a project, clients and regulatory agencies also required

  • AutoCAD proficiency is required
  • Ability to interface with other disciplines on projects is required
  • EIT certificate is required and eligible to sit for PE exam within18 months is required
  • PE certification is preferred
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred
  • Civil 3D proficiency is required
  • LEED experience is preferred
  • SmartPlant 3D experience is preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the USA for any employer other than your current employer
