Vestas Technology & Service Solutions (TSS) is responsible for developing, verifying and industrializing wind turbines and related service products. It is here that we lay the technological foundation for staying the global leader in wind energy by continuously reducing the Cost of Energy.

The Powertrain System converts the kinetic energy from the wind turbine rotor into electrical energy. The system consists of main components such as gearbox, generator and main shaft bearings, and the supporting auxiliary systems such as lubrication, couplings, or brakes.

The Powertrain department currently consists of approx. 50 highly skilled employees, situated in Denmark, Germany, USA and China. Our mission is to drive the evolution of powertrain solutions which set standards in the wind turbine industry. Strong focus is on providing solutions which will reduce the Cost of Energy faster than the market. We are working on flexible solutions in order to provide customized offerings to our customers in order to compete in mature and emerging markets even with challenging local content demands. This also requires that the department continuously focuses on operational excellence in the development, and foster an innovative culture in integrating and exploiting novel technologies to improve the time to market and finally continuously contributing to extend the global leadership position of Vestas.

As Senior Specialist Generator (f/m) you will be technically responsible for all electromagnetic design aspects of our internally designed Generators for our 2 and 3MW platform.

  • Technical leadership and final sign-off for the entire product portfolio with regard to Generators represented by the responsibility of a Functional Lead (FL). This position reports into the Manager of the Generator Design department and supports the System Lead (SL) of the entire Powertrain (PTR) system within the technical delegation structure
  • New product development of Generators within our current platform projects in conjunction with our PMO organization delivering on committed scope, budget and schedule
  • Upgrades / Engineering Change Management (ECM) of our existing DFIG, SFIG and PMG Machines
  • Providing input to Vestas Technology Roadmap and further execution of approved projects with the aim to reduce the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE) of the Powertrain system
  • Contribution to generator related Commodity teams (representing Technology in a team of procurement, manufacturing and quality experts) with the aim to secure competitiveness across the entire value chain in both existing and emerging markets
  • Support to our manufacturing organization in Germany, Spain and China within the Generator segment in order to assure flawless operations
  • Representing Vestas within Standardization Committees (e.g. IEC), Conferences and Universities

Qualifications and work experience
  • Educational background with a Ph.D. or M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Solid work experience within the area of engineering (R&D) of generators
  • Specific work experience within the wind industry is beneficial but not required
  • You have a track record within new product development of rotating electrical machines with fundamental knowledge of:
    • The calculation of electromagnetical fields
    • Thermodynamics within electrical machines
    • Mechanical interfaces
    • Insulation systems at low and medium voltage
    • Material engineering
    • Relevant international standards and requirements
    • Test & verification of electrical machines
    • Design for manufacturing
    • Relevant simulation software
  • Through your experience in various industries, you have combined your technical expertise with an excellent business mindset which allows you to consider commercial implications in your technical decision making
  • Further your organizational and communicative skills allow you to achieve your results through international and multi-disciplinary teams which involve colleagues from various parts of Vestas as well as supply partners globally
  • With your outgoing personality, you are able to establish an external network which drives cooperative technology projects with external partners, universities and suppliers
  • You motivate yourself through the results that you accomplish, and address your tasks proactively with a high degree of personal responsibility. You have high ambitions to continuously advance the quality of your deliverables, but also understand the importance to deliver on time
  • Excellent language skills in English are required as you will work within a global environment. Your balanced personality and self-confidence enable you to manage multiple tasks in parallel, and keep a clear sight of the targets also when stakes are high
  • German skills will be appreciated
