Jacobs Technology is looking for Junior (Entry Level), Intermediate, and Senior Controls Designers for various ongoing and upcoming projects. At Jacobs, our controls team has opportunities to work locally in Michigan and travel the world for projects in the field of automation system design, installation and commissioning. Some common traits required are:

Able to work independently and in a group

Communicate well with others

Excellent attention to detail and strong work ethic

Reliable transportation and able to work throughout Southeast Michigan

Junior Level Controls Engineer - is able to do light design of hardware and software (PLC/HMI). 1 to 2 years' experience/education

1. Light hardware design of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and water coolant systems for (any) Body in White, Powertrain, Final Assembly or conveyor automation systems.

2. Detail sketches provided by mid and senior level controls designers using ACAD.

3. Develop standard block library of controls components in ACAD.

4. Some basic programming knowledge of PLC's and HMI's.

5. Willingness to grow and learn in the field of controls design.

Intermediate Level Controls Engineer - able to design and commission a controls package from initial line-up through customer buy-off. 2 to 5+ years of experience

1. Hardware design of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and water coolant systems for (any) Body in White, Powertrain, Final Assembly or conveyor automation systems.

2. Proficient in ACAD

3. Familiarity with hardware and software interfacing to robots such as Fanuc/ABB/Nachi/Kawasaki. Additional robots familiarity a plus.

4. Design of networks such as DNET, ENET, Profibus, Profinet, Remote I/O.

5. Design of safety systems using integrated safety PLC's or safety processors such as PILZ.

6. Proficient with Microsoft office products.

7. PLC development using multiple types of software such as Rockwell or Siemens.

8. HMI development using multiple types of software such as Rockwell or Siemens.

9. Hardware commissioning

10. Software commissioning of PLC's and HMI's.

Senior Controls Engineer- able to lead/design a controls package from initial line-up through customer buy-off.

1. Able to lay out a job from the specifications and assign work to mid and junior level designers.

2. Assist the department manager in keeping jobs on time and under budget.

3. Mentor junior and mid-level designers in hardware and software design.

4. Hardware design of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and water coolant systems for (any) Body in White, Powertrain, Final Assembly or conveyor automation systems.

5. Proficient in ACAD

6. Familiarity with hardware and software interfacing to robots such as Fanuc/ABB/Nachi/Kawasaki. Additional robots familiarity a plus.

7. Design of networks such as DNET, ENET, Profibus, Profinet, Remote I/O.

8. Design of safety systems using integrated safety PLC's or safety processors such as PILZ.

9. Checker of mid and junior level hardware design.

10. Good communication skills to use while interfacing with internal project managers, customers and plant management

11. Proficient with Microsoft office products.

12. PLC development using multiple types of software such as Rockwell or Siemens.

13. HMI development using multiple types of software such as Rockwell or Siemens.

14. Hardware debug/build/installation supervision.

15. Software debug of PLC's and HMI's.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work at a computer and desk. Must be able to navigate to offices, multiple sites, and locations. Must be able to interact effectively with all levels of employees and customers.

Work Environment

Normal Office Environment. Many areas may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Equipment and Machines

Computers and General Administrative Equipment (e.g. phone, computers, copiers, printers)

Attendance

With the exception of approved leave and holidays, attendance is mandatory. This position is expected to be on-site during all regular business hours as aligned with customer requirements. Availability after hours via phone/electronic communication.

Must take and pass a drug test and background check. Must have/maintain appropriate security clearance as may be required.
