Position Summary

  • This position is a direct report to the Electrical Department Manager who in turn reports to Manager of Engineering.
  • The reports to the Senior Electrical Engineer will be those assigned on a project-by-project basis. The Senior Electrical Engineer will run medium projects directly or report to a Principal Engineer on larger projects.
  • Work activities will include both project and proposal work where both the technical approach and continuity must be aligned.
  • Work activities for projects will be executed across all phases of projects including Conceptual Studies; Basic; FEED; and Detailed Design.
  • Projects are for process plant and facilities across the Chemical; Oil and Gas; and Pharmaceutical (Bio) sectors.
  • Proposal work will include the development of methodologies; work scope split or interface definition; establishment of deliverables; IT application usage and manhour estimates. Often client presentations may be appropriate.
  • Project work will include resource allocation; lead engineering support of the schedule; workflow; manhour spread; and progress measurement. Reviewing the design for compliance both formally and informally.
  • Project work will include approval of key documents as defined in company standards and project Quality plan.
  • Assist in the definition of the technical audit requirement for project work and respond to both internal and external departmental audits as required.

Technical details: a knowledge and appreciation of the following is required. Training will be provided to support where necessary;

  • Analysis and design of large power systems which may include HV supplies, own HV and LV generation and distribution.
  • Protection Relay selection and co-ordination.
  • Use of Proprietatary system analysis packages e.g. ETAP, AMTECH
  • European and American design codes.
  • Major oil companies standards, in particular; Saudi Aramco, BP, SASREF and Petro Ragibh.
  • Electrical Equipment and material selection, specification and inspection
  • Earthing and lightning protection design.
  • Cable and cable support system design.
  • Lighting specification and design.

  • 10+ years of experience required
  • A proven track record and experience of working within the Electrical Discipline of a contracting organisation.
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience of leading the Electrical discipline on projects, controlling expertise in system design, equipment specification and selection and in ensuring what is specified is obtained from the suppliers.
  • Experience with scheduling, manhour control, productivity and status reporting
  • Experience of project execution using selected design modelling techniques.
  • Experience of design monitoring including design safety, constructability, ergonomics and staged design review process i.e. 30%; 60%; 90% model reviews.
  • Experience of work-share processes is an advantage.
