Position Summary

In a participatory or lead role, the Facilities Assessor will execute in-office and field assessment activities including, but not limited to, facility condition assessments, space planning assessments, functional adequacy assessments, educational adequacy assessments and energy audits. Incumbent will collect, process and analyze data as well as generate or write reports.

  • Participate as an assessment team member and is responsible for the delivery of multiple technical aspects of a project's deliverables.
  • Interpret project documents related to schedule, scope, process, quality and level of effort.
  • Interpret client documents related to record drawings, specifications and component inventories.
  • Take field notes, photographs, and nameplate data as well as determines wear, age, and repair requirements for systems and equipment in their fields of discipline.
  • Will have travel to locations near and far for periods of a few days to several weeks as needed to project sites.
  • Assist project and technical managers in the completion of assessment work in accordance with project and client specifications.

Additional requirements include:

  • High situational awareness and safety consciousness
  • Ability to travel to project sites in excess of 50%
  • Ability to gather and understand technical data for purposes of generating technical reports.
  • Ability to clearly write reports and technical narratives.
  • Working knowledge of MEP systems or architectural, structural and civil building elements.
  • Ability to classify building systems and components according to the Uniformat II classification structure.
  • Ability to estimate the size or capacity of building systems or components
  • Ability to estimate the remaining life of an asset through a combination of asset age, design life, condition, the obvious presence (or lack of) preventative maintenance activities and facility staff interviews.
  • Ability to recognize, categorize and quantify asset deficiencies
  • Ability to make multiple decisions within a short period of time
  • Intermediate mathematical skills in order to perform field calculations.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills in order to work with clients and/or project teams.

  • Bachelors of Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Structural Engineering or comparable technical degree required
  • Minimum 2 years work history demonstrating hands on experience with building design, facility management, facility maintenance or applicable construction or service trades required
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
  • Must be able to navigate any type of area within a facility including mechanical rooms, mezzanines and roof through the use of secured ladders.
  • Must be able to sustain a high walk rate through facilities during assessments, i.e., 100,000 facility square feet per day.
