Due to our growth plan, we are seeking a Bridge Engineer to join the Highways business in the Winnersh office (Reading) which is home to the largest bridge team within Jacobs UK. The team have a holistic approach to bridge engineering within an integrated team of structural design specialists and asset-management engineers.

In this role, you will be involved with an exciting mix of iconic bridge design and bridge rehabilitation schemes across a dozen key clients, with workload reaching ahead 5 years on framework contracts. This is an excellent opportunity for you to take ownership of a project portfolio.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of bridge and bridge related structural scheme designs at feasibility, optioneering and detailed design stages
  • Undertaking design or assessment calculations
  • Supervising the production of design drawings or other project related design deliverables
  • Resolving technical issues as they occur and monitoring progress of your areas of responsibility
  • Organising and carrying out General, Principal & Special Bridge Inspections
  • Preparation of contract documents

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Some experience in Highway bridges or railway bridges sector
  • Experience of design analysis and assessment of structures using SuperSTRESS, Archie, MEXE
  • Experience of designing Bridges to the current codes and standards, including Eurocodes, BS5400 and DMRB
  • Good working knowledge of the Specification for Highway Works
  • Ability to produce well-presented and accurate drawings and reports
  • Capability to manage own tasks, costs and meeting deadlines
  • Good IT skills
