Position Summary

The Interiors Studio Lead will be responsible for the overall development and success of the St. Louis office with specific responsibility to the development of an Interiors Studio and its future success. This position offers a seasoned Interiors professional the opportunity to take on a substantial leadership role, building the interiors department within an established, successful Firm. He/she will be design focused and drive closer collaboration and involvement with architecture and engineering.

We are seeking a self-motivated, strong leader who will be able to hit the ground running and build the interiors business by staffing the department, retaining business with existing clients and attracting new clients through marketing initiatives. The Interiors Studio Lead will be responsible for developing business and a portfolio of clients and projects while managing team activities and leading projects in a multi-disciplinary practice.


  • Vision and direction of the interior studio coordinated with national goals
  • Direct the efforts of business development / public relations
  • Represent the firm to our client base
  • Oversee all components of the studio to ensure development and success of the group
  • Oversee all projects and ensure service, innovation and quality assurance
  • Develop a strong design team and champion design excellence
  • Maintain communication with National Interiors Sector Lead to ensure alignment of goals


  • Develop and track new opportunities:
  • Identify target and development clients
  • Identify current opportunities
  • Qualify leads
  • Read and monitor local publications
  • Attend networking meetings held by IFMA, CoreNet, CREW, SCUP, etc.
  • Maintain network development (vendors, brokers, etc.)
  • Research market trends
  • Coordinate marketing portfolio materials and qualification packages
  • Attend business development meetings and accomplish the following activities:
  • Respond to requests for qualifications
  • Work with assigned PM to respond to RFP's
  • Assist as needed to prepare proposals in conjunction with business development and other disciplines or required consultants
  • Review developed proposed work plan and related fee to insure that the fee is aligned with other like projects and strategic goals
  • Lead effort in the organization of the preparation of presentations to potential clients:
  • Coordinate efforts with business development and other disciplines

Develop and maintain relationships with all existing clients:
  • Providing project management oversight, insure proper tracking of additional services on existing contracts
  • Providing project management oversight, insure awareness of and inclusion in new project opportunities

Direct public relation efforts:
  • Develop and submit trade journal articles
  • Submit for speaking engagement opportunities
  • Submit projects for design competitions
  • Coordinate design portfolio submissions
  • Coordinate photo shoots


Direct and coordinate recruitment efforts:
  • Determine personnel needs coordinating with the Director of Architecture & Interiors and the National Interiors Sector Lead
  • Review resumes, assess candidates
  • Interview candidates as required in conjunction with the Director of Architecture & Interiors, Ops Manager and National Interiors team

Overview of Employee Career Path Objectives:
  • Insure timely and meaningful employee reviews are conducted and properly documented
  • Recommend, compile and review salary increase overview
  • Determine candidates for participation in special events, seminars and industry events
  • Encourage internal tutorials / mentoring and coordinate training
  • Monitor career path objectiveness of all personnel



Staffing projections:
  • Work with Director of Architecture & Interiors, Project Managers, Design and DOC / QA Leads ensure that staffing projections are up to date and tied to master project schedule and fee analysis
  • Trouble shoot and resolve staffing conflicts
  • Monitor manpower projections

Fiscal / Operations Budget:
  • In conjunction with Operations, Project Managers, Design and DOC / QA Leads develop annual budgets; review with the Ops Manager and National Interiors Sector Lead

Financials / Operations Overview:
  • Review / overview status reports on yearly forecasts and quarterly updates, accounts receivable status, billability / overhead analysis

Project Management Overview:
  • Review project fees, staffing projections and schedules when submitted in a proposal and periodically throughout the process as required
  • Review client / project contracts with Ops Manager and Legal prior to obtaining required signatures
  • Assist in troubleshooting project problems
  • Insure proper tracking of additional services on existing contracts

  • 15+ years of applicable professional experience, demonstrated by working in a similar role required
  • Bachelors or higher level degree from an accredited school of Interior Design or Architecture; or business school with proven knowledge of design process required
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication and relationship management skills
  • Leverage oneself beyond project-based focus to address greater office and regional issues
  • Work closely with other Directors across firm to promote inter-disciplinary design approach and philosophy and facilitates its advancement in respective offices and across firm
  • Be an integral part in the growth and success of the interiors discipline
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate staff
  • Strong reputation in the industry and with clients
  • AIA or NCIDQ / CID preferred
  • Established knowledge and presence in local real estate market preferred
