We seek a highly motivated and talented individual to create ideas for next generations electromagnetic actuation systems, generalized linear and rotational electromagnetic drives, identification and development of new concepts, technologies, technology platforms, and intellectual property.

- Development of new actuation systems within the wide and versatile field of ABB's products.
- Mathematical modeling, simulation and design of electromagnetic actuators and mechatronic systems.
- Execution of R&D projects in close cooperation with ABB business units, end customers and universities.
- Identification of new trends through observation of market, competition and university research.
- Assessment of new technologies based on cost-benefit analyses.
- Presentation of research results within the group and at scientific conferences.
- Setup of experiments together with a prototyping team.

- We expect a university degree (PhD) in electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering or a related field.
- We are looking for a person with a solid background in electromagnetics and a strong interest in the versatile industrial application of innovative actuators.
- Demonstrable experience and knowledge in the field of computational electromagnetics is a prerequisite.
- We expect advanced modeling skills in 3D computational software tools (e.g. Ansys / Maxwell, Comsol) and analytical understanding of equation systems.
- Laboratory skills and experimental experience are appreciated.
- Knowledge of signal processing and micro-controller or FPGA based control technology and hardware-in-the-loop will be beneficial.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential; German language skills are beneficial but not a prerequisite.
