Position Summary

The Safety Incident Investigator, Senior will work with all PG&E utility departments to detect, prevent and mitigate safety risks by conducting and completing incident analysis to ensure the chain of command is notified. He/she will provide subject matter expertise on incident analysis and provide consultation and guidance on corrective action development while collaborating and supporting line of businesses and guide them on all safety related business. The Safety Incident Investigator will utilize safety trend analysis to identify and mitigate actions to correct gaps and introduce and implement innovative solutions with impact to correct gap in partnering with learning academy to improve training quality and serve as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of the various companywide initiatives.


- High School Diploma or GED
- 5 years of relevant experience with at least three years of safety investigation experience.


- BA/BS degree
- Successful completion of ECAP-1, ECAP-2 and ECAP-3 training
- Proficiency in root cause analysis and investigative techniques including Five Whys, Fishbone Analysis, Factor Trees, Barrier Analysis and Management Oversight and Risk Tree (MORT).
- Advanced knowledge of PG&E safety procedures, the Code of Safe Practices and organizational safety-related processes and procedures
- Advanced knowledge of Cal-OSHA general industry and construction safety orders and other recognized safety regulations and standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, FedOSHA, etc)
- Ability to interpret and implement safety regulations to improve the PG&E safety culture
- Expert at conducting and evaluating complex root cause analysis investigations and evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions
- Expert at conducting hazard evaluations for complex or widely impactful/globally applicable jobs and recommending and evaluating the effectiveness of controls
- Advanced knowledge of key PG&E organizations and their potential exposure to safety and health risks
- Expert at providing quality customer service and support ion a professional and confident manner, and identifying potential safety needs. Recognized and trusted as a knowledgeable safety professional
- Advanced knowledge of incident management
- Advanced knowledge of job safety analysis
- Advanced knowledge of quality corrective action understanding
- Advanced knowledge of office and field ergonomics
- Demonstrates skill in delivering clear, understandable oral presentations to groups

- Professional Certification/Safety Management (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Management, Construction Health and Safety Technician, Occupational Health and Safety Technician, Certified Utility Safety Specialist, etc.)


- Partners with LOB to conduct and complete incident analysis of serious incidents.
- Ensures that LOB leadership is provided timely and accurate information on all serious incident investigations.
- Provides SME on minor and serious incidents and provides consultation and guidance on corrective actions. Ensures completion of corrective actions.
- Completes written and verbal communications with the CPUC, CAL-OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Communicates with the Company's legal and claims departments.
- Maintains the serious incidents databases to ensure that all documents are present, accurate and current.
- May partner with LOB to conduct non-serious incident analysis.
- Develop and deliver incident investigation training.
- Serves as a liaison between the technical and practical aspect of safety and ensure implementation into the line of business.
- Frequently shares incident investigation information to all in an impactful and results oriented way.
- Conducts trending of data to understand leading indicators of serious safety issues
- Communicates safety trends and recommends safety corrective actions.
- Mentors leadership on investigation process and safety processes.
- Create safety action plans to strategize approach and provide guidance in development.
- Strategizes approach for LOB to measure success in safety measures. Provides strategic cost effective actions.
- Utilize trending analysis to identify and mitigate actions to correct gaps. Introduce and implement innovative solutions with impact to correct gaps. Communicates opportunities for improvement.
- Delivers safety training and measures the effectiveness of training. Partners with learning academy to improve training quality.
- Provides guidance on coordinating annual training and training profiling as needed.
- Serves as a safety / LOB SME during training development.
- Supports compliance with applicable programs (Respirator, hearing, ergo)
- Serve as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of the various companywide initiatives. (Culture, near hit, grassroots, ergonomics, etc.)
- Conducts gap analysis in response to investigation findings.
- Helps develop and implement new safety programs.
- Conducts field and driver observations.
- Provide guidance to lower level Safety Specialists.
