Department Overview

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including: planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
This position is located within Gas System Planning (GSP). GSP is responsible for gas system modeling, hydraulic analysis, design recommendation and review, operational and emergency support, and system's engineering of PG&E's backbone, transmission, and distribution systems.
• GSP's plans drive PG&E's gas system investments, design, and operations for delivering gas to PG&E's customers in a safe, affordable, reliable, manner, and without incident.

Position Summary

Work Location is Bishop Ranch, (other locations based on business need)
This position will be responsible for transmission planning for PG&E's transmission systems, and will support the In-Line Inspection efforts of Gas Operations. Engineers will work with a variety of teams, and should be able to work independently.

Essential Functions
•Ensure that gas system capacity and overall system operations meet the needs of PG&E's gas transmission system customers. Provide hydraulic analysis, operational support, and gas transmission system engineering for the company's local transmission system.
•Collaborates with gas operations departments and other lines of business (LOB) to ensure the design, construction, and operation of gas facilities meet operational requirements of the gas pipeline systems.
•Act as a liaison with gas field operations personnel to assess and review the impacts of operations within the gas pipeline system.
•Contribute to Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability, and affordability.


Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
-Three (3) years relevant experience

-Pipeline Simulation Engineering experience (Synergi or equivalent)
-Engineering in Training (EIT) certification
-Professional Engineering (PE) license


*Provide hydraulic analysis and transmission system engineering expertise regarding PG&E's local gas transmission and/or backbone transmission systems.
*Utilize hydraulic simulation models to determine transmission system performance (pipelines, regulator stations, compressor stations, and storage fields) for problems of moderate scope or complexity.
*Evaluate and determines cost efficient and effective facility enhancements and replacements to meet customer needs and operating requirements.
*Assess and review escalated impacts of operations within the gas pipeline system. *Calculate complex pipeline, station, and compressor unit capacities and provide technical design load curves and temperature forecasts and results.
*Review customer gas usage, temperature factors, and load curves.
*Analyze winter pressure charts, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) information, and other system performance data.
*Validate and contrast models and scenarios compared to gas operations data and develop recommendations to resolve issues
*Provide technical engineering expertise to assess and support gas planning tools and software.
*Conduct analyses and contribute to the development of testimony for federal, state, and local regulatory agencies/commissions, e.g., California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and Federal Energy and Regulatory Commission (FERC).
* Provide technical peer review and provide technical direction and leadership to other Gas System Planning engineers.
